NBC's top climate reporter quits
In an exclusive interview, veteran NBC meteorologist Chase Cain opens up about burnout, suppression, and why he's going independent.
Corporate broadcast coverage of climate change fell 35% in the last year, even as Trump systemically dismantled climate policy and billion-dollar disasters rose
The gradual deprioritization led NBC climate reporter Chase Cain to hit a breaking point, and he quit last week
Here's our interview:

Using hydrogen as a fuel to replace natural gas has been strongly promoted by vested interest groups.
Many including myself raised serious concerns about scalability, cost and efficiency.
The more time passes, the more it looks like those concerns were well-founded.

The Usual Suspects When It Comes Climate Action Obstruction in Rhode Island - ecoRI News
The first sentence of the report grabbed my attention. “After stunning successes in 2021 and 2022, climate action has slowed in Rhode Island.”
Some nice coverage of our new report on who's blocking action on climate in the Rhode Island legislature.
This is a "blue state" with huge Democratic majorities.
Yet 21 of 22 priority bills of statewide climate and environment organizations in 2025 died in committee.

haha I think it's more because it's a very international city. There's a WhatsApp group for every bike ride. There's one for my apartment complex and my work. And, I'm in another group for climate related things in town.

How UVA’s presidential search missed what took us an hour to find
Inside Higher Ed frames the controversy surrounding Scott C. Beardsley's appointment as the University of Virginia's president.
This seems to strongly suggest that the incoming president of UVA doctored his CV to the edge of outright dishonesty, and that the most recent changes came months before Jim Ryan was forced, as if they were made in anticipation in Ryan’s removal. augustafreepress.com/news/vanishi...

U.S. Invasion of Venezuela Violates International Climate Law Too
The Trump administration’s oil grab and plans to expand Venezuelan production flouts last year’s landmark climate ruling from the International Court of Justice.
By me: US Invasion of Venezuela Violates International Climate Law Too: 'A historically high-emitting state is violating international law in order to undertake yet another internationally wrongful activity — harming the climate system.'

The U.S.-Venezuela-Guyana Oil Triangle
The U.S. interest in Venezuela isn’t just about the oil there, but also about the oil next door in Guyana, and the U.S. oil companies that have staked their future on it.
Something I see a lot of folks missing in discussions about what's happening Venezuela, particularly around oil, is the role U.S. oil majors' interest in Guyana—and the threat Venezuela posed to it—has in all of it. Explainer here: drilled.media/news/guyana-...

There are millions of abandoned oil wells across the United States. A group of unlikely activists in Texas is making sure no one forgets they need to be cleaned up.
a big new one from me: I profiled a group of neighbors in west texas who have become the face of the abandoned well problem in the heart of oil country for @motherjones.com - an unlikely group of former industry workers and ranchers who are fed up with how Big Oil won’t clean up its messes:
