Fifty years after New Zealand stopped whaling, humpback population showing signs of recovery Breeding is getting more competitive, suggesting the population is growing, a new study shows.

This is a marvelous change not only for the Humpback whale ๐Ÿ‹ population but for all of us. We need to keep our gentle giants from going extinct.

'There are so many bones everywhere': The whale graveyards that transform the deep sea A photographer captured this extraordinary site where whales' bodies lie in the shallows, with troubling repercussions for the deep oceans.

@kathlanpher.bsky.social has written a great article for the BBC about a photography expedition to film at a shallow #whale graveyard near Tasiilaq, Greenland. There are around 20 #minkewhale skeletons here, 15 feet belรถw the pack ice

Scientists put sharks in a tank with toys. They noticed that the sharks bite and push toys and deliberately swim in circles. But are they really playing?

Experts: "It's hard to say and research is ongoing."

Red human โ€” unvaccinated (563)

Measles has one of the highest basic reproduction numbers (Rโ‚€) of any disease (12 to 18), meaning one infected person can spread it to 12 to 18 others in a fully susceptible population, making it extremely contagious. Need 95% vaccination status to achieve herd immunity. Get vaccinated!!

I appreciate those out there protesting at great risk to their lives however i think the nation needs to grind this economy to a dead stop.
It's something everyone can do safely. No spending on ANYTHING but absolute necessities.
I understand some shut ins can not do this but very many of us can.

Experts warn ongoing concern with Atlantic Ocean will be direct threat to dozens of nations: 'Consequences for at least 1,000 years to come' "A huge responsibility for the decision makers of today."

A recent study by Dutch colleagues shows that a shutdown of the Atlantic overturning circulation #AMOC could bring extreme drought to Europe for centuries.
That is a thus far underappreciated risk of climate change.

Sprat are small members of the herring family, and are the basis of whole marine ecosystems. Yet they're being hoovered up by pair-trawlers to feed fish farms.

Please sign our petition calling for a pause on sprat trawling until we have more data.

Trumpโ€™s DOJ is building a voter purge machineโ€”powered by your private data The federal agency ordinarily would prevent attacks on voting rights. Now itโ€™s carrying them out.

Today, the DOJ sued Colorado for access to its complete voter roll. This marks the 15th state sued over private voter info, 13 of which are led by Democrats.
