Don't be under any impression that Microsoft are doing this out of the kindness of their hearts. Like all of us, they are responsive to social and economic pressures. People power works, even against tech giants.

A truth not universally acknowledged.

Remember when we thought Microsoft and Bill Gates were the most evil technologists could ever be, because of how they bundled a crap web browser alongside their bad operating system? Those were happy days.

One of the most impactful bits of work I did last year was to use Pydantic models (or dataclasses) everywhere in our codebase, replacing raw dicts. We discovered and eliminated so many key errors and type errors, and developing has been a pleasure ever since.

How much of the sub money does the creator actually receive?

I think it is reasonable for writers to expect some compensation for their knowledge, but at that point you are running a consultancy, not a blog.
