A stylised drawing of a tree with a fine root system and branches in black ink, and leaves represented by many small hatched squares in dark green ink.

Four square white cards with different pen-plotter drawings in blue and red inks, all based around the walls of a maze in blue and a solution to it in red.
A circular crop of the blue maze pattern, distorted so it looks a bit like a sphere with cells getting smaller towards the edges. There are two small white islands that are not covered by the pattern.
Another square card with a blue maze and a red line, this one is a square but the blue walls have slightly rounded corners, and again a few islands are not covered by the pattern.

Two black cards with silver line drawings presented together, the upper side made of concentric circles masked by a sparse tree like the moon peeking through branches and leaves, and the lower side representing a complex root system.
A black card with a silver line drawing of a tree without leaves standing up in a dim room with diffuse light reflecting off the silver ink. In the background is a blurry drawing of similar root systems in black ink on white card.

Playing with parameters and colours, what was a regular hexagon grid becomes an almost three-dimensional isometric design when I fill in (some) of the segments with different hatching densities, and I never know which way is up.

Thanks, yes - embrace imperfection and all that. I should really get around to program a warning when the origin hasn't been set correctly after changing pens...

A four-by-four grid of square drawings on a white card, derived from previous Genuary posts.
Looking back on Genuary 2025 -- I completed 23 of 31 prompts, and here is a replotted grid of alternative versions of my 16 favourite designs.

A large square black card with four square drawings in metallic pens of different colours, based on sinusoidal lissajous curves traced by many small square shapes.
A gold spiral and a silver curl trailed by squares in gold and silver metallic pens on a square black card.
A metallic green elliptical spiral, with thinner metallic blue and silver sinusoidal trails emerging from the same point.
A very busy drawing with five colours and larger, denser squares heavily overlapping in pink, purple, gold, bronze, and silver pens.

Red, blue, purple, and pink fineliners filling a hexagon tiling with variable densities to create horizontal, vertical, and diagonal gradients in shapes aligned to a 6x11 rectangular grid. Some blocks are left empty, some span multiple rows and columns, and some are replaced by regular polygons or circles. One wide cell includes the text alwaysplottingsomething.com filled in black, and there are small crosses in thin black lines denoting the underlying grid corners.

Re-using my hex tiling gradient hatching code from earlier in the month, but fitting it into a grid layout.

Isometric drawing of a 2.5D topological map of Arthur's Seat, Edinburgh, created from hexagon columns, in black pen on a square white card.
Genuary 27: Make something interesting without randomness, noise, or trig.
Maybe not "interesting", but I used this prompt to add some real-world data to my previously randomly generated isometric hexagon columns plot.

Detail shot of the plotter drawing, the card is placed on a grey cutting mat, and the black pen is finishing a line to the right of the second window.
Top-down view of the completed drawing: a lightly shaded orange square, with lighter and darker shades giving an illusion of depth with two large inset windows in the bottom half of the facade, and a hard diagonal shadow filled more densely with black lines crossing the bottom right corner.
A white card showing a drawing of orange and black lines resembling a facade with two large inset windows in the bottom left corner and a hard shadow across it diagonally, leaning against a white wall with a real shadow crossing it.

A detail of the top right corner, with the metal tip and yellow ring reading 0.35 of the rotring isograph pen visible, showing that there is very fine detail in the fractal, on a similar scale to the pen tip.
The first drawing, a twin dragon curve with right angles in black technical pen on a square white card. The curve is a fractal, that is, it is constructed from many rotated and scaled copies of itself. The area looks filled by a square grid.
The second drawing, with slightly different parameters to the curve generation leading to a fractal outline shape without the grid fill seen in the first drawing.
A close up of the first curve, revealing slightly round corners which are a small effect caused by the pen plotter construction and it running quite fast while being programmed to make sharp right-angle turns.
