Of course for a lot of Zionists this is a feature rather than a bug. It's a lot easier to equate anti-Zionism with antisemitism if the only anti-Zionists people hear from are in fact antisemites!

Say what you will about the @demsocialists.bsky.social electoral apparatus, I have to commend us for mostly successfully filtering out the weird viral influencer type candidates with like, nazi tattoos or a passion for US military intervention or whatever

At last, AI is allowing governments to achieve their goals of hollowing out public services, while also being extremely racist

When I joined DSA in 1998, Pranis was still running the PMP from the national office in Manhattan.

Before even my time unfortunately, and that generation of DSA is basically all gone. Kevin Pranis was the youth organizer when it started and went on to direct it as an independent project. He works for the Laborers union now and seems to be online, maybe you could ask him!

If you mean the one that started in the mid-90s, you probably already know that it began as a project of the DSA Youth Section. So it comes up a bit in histories of the organization, but I don't know any longer treatments unfortunately.

This is our Kyle Rittenhouse, and Chuck Schumer needs to start acting like it. Not sure I can vote for the nominee if this kid doesn't speak at the 2028 DNC.

US Voting Patterns Are Shifting. But It’s Not Simply “Class Dealignment.” It’s not that partisan voting patterns are becoming decoupled from class — it’s that a complicated new set of alignments, rooted in the social and occupational structures of a postindustrial economy, ...

It's such a preposterous way of defining class, used even by supposed socialists sometimes. Among other absurdities, it would imply that the "working class" has been shrinking every generation as college graduation rates rise.

Lady claims to get rich selling LLM-written books, actually makes money selling courses about how you can get rich off LLM books, classic scam architecture

Viewers of Dan Olson know that this is an old scam, and the only "AI" angle is that an LLM has replaced ultra-low-wage ghostwriters: www.youtube.com/watch?v=biYc...

This is such classic Morozov, citing the right people and moving in the right conceptual direction, while simultaneously undermining the whole argument with glib trend-chasing

I guess maybe the sensibility will be liberal copaganda in the vein of The Wire, but I think (hope) we're past that as a culture

Yeah, whatever the kindle app was like back then. Didn't do three bookmark thing, just the ease of jumping back and forth to footnotes with links was good enough

Aside from admitting that even three decades on the hard left haven't fully prepared me to analyze this environment, I fall back on the old wisdom that working collectively with people you trust reigns supreme over nearly everything

I'm genuinely willing to believe that may be true, and I don't have any investment in defending this one particular person

Oh I agree and I'm not trying to act like I have a perfect analysis of where we are! But I do still think it's possible to identify the dynamic I'm talking about and try to mitigate it.

There's a particular toxic reaction that happens when inexperienced normie liberals who genuinely don't know how to evaluate their threat environment come into contact with protest subculture types who want to larp like they're in the IRA

I'm not in Minneapolis and don't pretend to know the whole story here, but misplaced and paranoid "security culture" is a real problem in moments of upsurge, I see it cropping up locally again, after I encountered it during the George Floyd rebellion as well

The deaths squads are clearly out of control, that's why I'm proposing legislation to double their budget and retrain them as maiming squads

Hey now let's be fair, they aren't direct death star employees, they just work for a contractor that provides all the death star software

OK, but maybe journalists could reconsider the norm of "uncritically repeat government claims, then fact check them later", when faced with a government whose first move in every situation is an immediate barrage of preposterous lies?
