mathematicians be like group theory set theory and category theory are all different things

is that a bad thing?

sorry if i’m missing sarcasm but what do you mean by β€œnobody pirates popular things, they're bulletproof”, huge amounts of people torrent anime and streaming service shows, and pirate AAA games rather then pay for 5 streaming services or shell out $90 a title

oauth scopes aren’t finished yet, so the developer has to ask for those permissions for now.

would be great if people stopped spreading atproto misinformation (this is being worked on and there are ways to add private data)

thank you this is so nice to have

i think maybe conversations would be more productive if people gave less reality to words that weren’t said and give more reality to words that were said and their own words that they would like to say

this could be enforced at the appview/client level right? removing all !no-discover users from all feeds that the user does not follow (yes 3rd party client/appview's could ignore this). it seems better then leaving it up to feed authors at least

really cool that non of the people getting mad in this thread replied to your actual example

(unless something changed recently)

can anyone set the trans theme?

the bigger losers are the people that brought into any of the thousands of schemes, its better to be overly skeptical and there is no immediate benefit to the majority of people, with a lot to lose

i disagree, the only crypto that people are exposed to is headlines about ftx
, anoying cryptobros, and their uncle who lost all his money on dogecoin. avoiding censorship and sanctions aren’t immediate use cases to everyone, nor is how to use it safely without supporting the (evil imo) big players

unsolicited opinion: this is a good article with some important points, however the title is not doing you or the people you want to convince any favours. you’re reflecting the a similar smug dismissal you accuse crypto haters of

for anyone reading this that isn’t aware, gpl is more concerned with the freedom of the user to see and modify the code running on their machine, rather than the freedom of the developer, which permissive licenses are better for

my latex picker script uses ydotool to press ctr-shift-v and it works a sweet 85% of the time ;_; so keeping an eye on this thread

what is the reason for storing the matrix id in the pds instead of the did document? it seems like it creates an unneeded dependency and point of failure?

Enabling Account Migration Back to Bluesky’s PDS | Bluesky One of the core promises of AT is seamless account migration between PDS hosts. Since federation opened up in the AT network, it has been possible to migrate away from the Bluesky PDS and between non-...

fyi you can migrate back to a bsky pds now.

i have seen them say they will host their own appview with diff moderation.

thanks to did’s and pds backups you never have to trust anyone 100%, but luckily you will be able to use their appview and client without migrating to their pds

atproto is the perfect network for portal to make a comeback, it kind of means the same thing as appview in a literal sense with added 2000s technological mysticism (with shared history and understanding of it being a web frontend)

11.10.2025 23:54 πŸ‘ 3 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

the final resort of naming software: ragebaiting people for suggestions

(unironically i beg of you pls no the atproto feed is full of enough confusion and misinfo without more term overloading)

11.10.2025 23:47 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

is that the right interpretation?

(throwing some terms out: catalog, oeuvre, vault, portfolio, bouquet, marquee, repertoire, portal)

11.10.2025 23:43 πŸ‘ 3 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

so streamers videos appear under their own url but are still hosted by you, is this similar to leaflet? it sounds like there needs to be a word similar to blog or website but for videos then, since this is isn't really about software or hosting anymore but the content and 'place' on the internet

11.10.2025 23:43 πŸ‘ 3 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

it seems quite unlikely anyone will host the EXACT same bundle, they will always have tweaks or point at different app severs, otherwise why bother (+ it’s against the terms and etiquette to not change the brand)

meaning that every hosted frontend will be different software, even if only slightly

deer.social

instance has a high risk of overloading the fedi term, where the instance is the entire social networking package and you have to pick just one. considering that every hosted frontend will at least be have different branding and colours, i don’t think it’s bad to say e.g. deer is a frontend

11.10.2025 22:49 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

that is a good point, frontend does imply software i would say they are different deployments or instances of the same frontend, which could be called different clients

"alice and bob both host their own streamplace client, which use the streamplace frontend, carol's client uses her own frontend"

View (SQL) - Wikipedia

a service that collates a β€˜view’* of the larger atproto network for an β€˜app’ to consume.

* en.wikipedia.org/wiki/View_(S...

11.10.2025 04:08 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

on top of that, the frontend is only a β€˜view’ only in the literal β€œsee it with your eyes” sense, the app server is still creating the real view of the network in the database sense, from the user perspective it also decides what content you’re allowed to β€˜view’ (bar some alt clients)
