Andrew O’Hagan · Stay Classy: Mummy’s Favourite
The late queen can be held responsible for much, but nobody could accuse her of seeming to enjoy her role. For the...
‘As a couple, Andrew and Sarah Ferguson have always been too stupid to understand the vulnerability of the institution that supports them, and they began wrecking it from the inside as soon as they met.’

Presumably then the government would have to offer sweetners with the licences to persuade oil companies to take them?

...and of course the threats to our historic city centre buildings is a UK wide problem, not just a Glasgow one.

Also, the message from Jezza is that the lives of 30000 Iranian citizens recently murdered by their own government are less valuable than others.

Oil produced in the N. sea would still be sold on the world market and would therefore not reduce the cost of fuel or other petroleum based products for the UK. Also UK oil is one of the most expensive in the world to extract so years of low prices would have limited development anyway?

Well I could be accused of that except jezza has got a lot of form on the subject of war. He always wants one lot to stop while never criticising the other lot.
He's as bad as the right wing warmongers but just happens to be on the other side.

Yes, those 30000 or so ordinary Iranians who were murdered by their own government and who you seem to have overlooked along with the 1200 Israelis murdered by Palestinian fascists who you have also overlooked deserved lives of peace also.

It is always worth bearing in mind that most of our politicians in the UK have not amassed vast fortunes and those that have, have done so outwith politics.
Looking at the personal wealth of a county's leadership tells you a lot about its government.

Given its size, it would take at least 600000 troops to occupy Iran. They don't all need to be American of course. I'm sure the IDF would be happy to help...

He may be over egging the pudding a bit but his point about closing the Strait of Hormuz for an appreciable period of time is an important one and no doubt something the Iranians are focused on. They will be well aware of what Israel and the US are capable of and will have plans to counter them.

The analysis may be over egging the case but it does seem that Iran has severely damaged at least some of the most sophisticated air defence systems the US has and is/was using to defend its regional air bases.
The article certainly illustrates the difficulty in defeating Iran.

Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper responds to President Trump’s latest outburst.
“The job of the British PM is to take decisions in the national interest of the U.K., not in the interests of other countries… we don’t outsource foreign policy to other countries”.

As someone in their late 60s I found the first half of the article very good but I'm afraid after that I started to have objections.
On climate change my generation didn't do as much as we should have because it took decades to get a general acknowledgement that something had to be done.
