As of March 10th, 1,245 to 1,255 civilians have been reported killed in Iran during the ongoing US-Israeli military attacks by reports from HRANA - Human Rights Activists News Agency, a US-based, non-profit news organization. The casualties include over 190-200 children.

We should demand that governments stop bombing civilian targets, build a campaign similar perhaps to the nuclear disarmament movement of the early 1960s.

Destroying the lives of civilians probably appears cringeworthy to the people who oppose us, a huge vulnerability on their part. Insisting on moral clarity of purpose rather than political debate gives them an easier means of retreating from injustice and supporting human rights.

This kind of satirizing, quasi-surrealist social mockery is European to the core, there's nothing like it in America except perhaps related actions at Mardi Gras in New Orleans. I think of Sebastian Brant's Ship of Fools (1509) and all the imitations it inspired, and Hieronymus Bosch.

Every year, men in the Belgian town of Aalst dress up as women and participate in an annual carnival, calling themselves "Voil Jeanetten" (Dirty Jennies). They wear corsets, old fur coats and lampshades on their heads. (WaPo: 2/19/19)
