as I am working regularly with IDNs such as xn--j2e7beiw1lb2hqg.com I am really hanging out for this! IDNs are totally impentratable for users in so many contexts today.
There is a proposed draft UTS #58 Unicode Linkification, with the goal that links applied to plain text don't fail for non-ASCII characters, such as:
"The page ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%82%... contains information about Albert Einstein."
