I've been asked what is next π and I'm honestly not ready to say goodbye to our '#WCEU Family' as yet, and so have plans to support in other ways, and at least, will be applying as a Volunteer next year when we move to another awesome city in Europe!
Having being a Volunteer, then an Organiser, then a Team Lead and now a Lead Organiser with #WCEU has been an amazing experience, working with some incredibly talented people along the way.
I've gained new friends, and it's one of the great ways to contribute to our community.
Although (as I mentioned) these are unpaid, we have some awesome 'thank yous' for our volunteers - including a social event, food and drink - and much more.
It can also be the first step if you're thinking of organising a WordCamp in the near future.
Although our organisers for #WCEU this year have been hard at work since September, there's still time to help out and get involved.
Our calls for Volunteers and Photographers are open - you can find out details here: europe.wordcamp.org/2025/calls/
The majority of #WCEU organisers are self-funded, although some have the support of their companies or employers to attend such site visits.
I find them invaluable to meet people in person and connect on a different level - and it's the best way to resolve any issues on site.
They're open to all organisers, and it's a lovely opportunity to attend the location before the conference, and to socialise and chat - but also explore the city, something we may not have as much time to do during #WCEU!
We generally have several on site visits for #WCEU. These traditionally take place around September (lead team) and then a visit around November and another in March.
This allows us plenty of time to visit the venue, check the location, and scout out places in the city.
Just over two weeks today, I'll be heading to the last site visit for #WCEU in Basel, along with approx 15 other organisers - it's 100 days from today until the event starts, and we began planning 12+ months ago.
This is where things seriously get real. #DontPanic

Awesome day out at the #Bricktastic event in Manchester today, loads of #Lego builds, custom models⦠absolutely amazing!
Photo of me stood holding the Lego Concorde model in our kitchen. 2,083 pieces later!
Post-Christmas project completed, we now have a #Lego #Concorde and have to consider where itβs now going to go π

Same for me! #WCEU #WordPress
I've been asked several times over the festive period and past week, but I'm still committed to organising #WCEU along with my co-leads and our amazing team.
The main reason and focus of WCEU has always been our community, and we're planning an awesome event.
Love to all β€οΈ
#TeamBetsi - DID YOU KNOW......? Our Improvement Bitesize training is now available as video learning that you can complete at a time that suits you?! It is just over 30 minutes making it a great session for Team meetings and lunch and learn sessions for services and departments too.

With apologies, I had added ALT text however it doesnβt seem to have saved, and unable to edit!
Maybe that would be a good post-posting option @bsky.app ;)
Awesome few days away on the @cunardline.bsky.social Queen Victoria visiting Belgium and France. We even had Alex Jones performing one night in the grand theatre!
Absolutely loving our day out in Bruges #Belgium
Currently checking out social event locations for #WCEU

Basel skyline from the Hyperion hotel lounge. Roche tower is in the distance, the highest building in Switzerland.
Very short trip to Basel but once again outstanding- lots of planning for #WCEU with some of our organisers - and just look at the view this morning from the hotel! βοΈ
And with Wifi pretty much everywhere in Switzerland, Β£3.50 for 1GB for the week is pretty good.
Planning the trip to #WCEU for our site visit this week, and just got my e-sim.
For some reason, my mobile operator in the UK gives roaming all over Europe, in the US and even the other side of the world, but places a charge on Switzerland.
Best tip - get a cheap esim (I'm using EasySim).
In Wales the overall target (suspected referral to treatment) is 62 days; 55% were starting treatment within these timeframes where cancer was identified in Sep '24.
On Friday, one scanner had USC patients for most of the scans carried out, with the additional scanner covering other conditions.
I also really valued the opportunity to speak with patients to understand their experiences - at what can be a complex, confusing and outright scary scenario to be in - but they spoke highly of my colleagues and the work they did to reassure and support them.
I love my job β€οΈ

It was an amazing opportunity seeing how this technology was being used to create interactive scans of patientsβ organs and tissues to check if they did indeed have cancerous tissue and identify before it spreads.
The images these (very expensive) machines take are unreal.
