Today I did a fast one day build to make myself a small DMX mixing board that I can use to add lighting cues to my animatronics shows! (I have shorter screws on the way.)
A screenshot of my sACN debugging tool running on tvOS. It also works on iPadOS and macOS.
I have a small TV in my workshop, so let's turn it into a nice debugging tool! This is showing the state of my e1.31 (DMX over sACN) network in real time.

PSE just bumped out our estimated ETA 24 hours. Sigh. Another cold night in bed I guess. I was gonna go to a hotel, but that requires a working car. π’
Still no power back, but they're still saying midnight. Ears crossed!
I haven't had power since 12:35:10 AM on Wednesday. I just got back from the grocery store and the power company was there handing out flashlights.
The gentlemen handing them out must have been engineers because they were very skilled at not giving ETAs.
Beaky got an iPhone for Mango! She thought it was a pretty good deal. youtube.com/shorts/hQQS8...
(I've finally taken most of the toil away from making animations! It's nearly all automated now after I make the soundtrack!)

Southern Baptists love to talk about βnot hurting their witnessβ as the reason they avoid alcohol, but aggressively going after LGBT+ rights is hurting their witness way more than having a beer.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk. π
If you were wondering why we didn't have reg on Thursday night this year, this is why. I was on a Linux-powered bender rushing to set up everything again.
I had backups of the database, so no data was lost. Just time.
Phew.
Always test your backups.
So all of MFM2025's registration is running on a Pi5 this weekend. It's really fast, and I might just keep it this way. It's so small I could transport it in a pocket on my suitcase.
I grabbed a spare Pi5 I had on hand and rebuilt the server in about 2.5 hours onto the Pi5. This would have been a few casual paced nights of work at home.
Luckily it's written in Java, so the amd64 -> arm64 port was no big deal. It's also Dockerized, so I only had to push a Linux/arm64 image.
Best I can tell, the CPU fan came off while in transit, and it did the Fork in the Garbage Disposal the whole way, smashing everything in sight. The CPU socket on the motherboard had bent pins. π¨ We tried to save the hardware, but it was beyond saving. youtu.be/o4AFQc4ZrvA
When I picked it up it rattled. I was again like "uh, that's also weird." When we opened the case, the CPU fan fell out. Along with the CPU itself.
It's gone between wherever I'm living at the time (Texas, California, Seattle) and Memphis with me every year.
This year, however, we went to set it up, it wouldn't power up. I was like "uh, that's weird," and went to look for a screwdriver to open the case, thinking the power button came loose.
Friends, I have a story to tell.
I'm Director of Registration for @mephitfurmeet.org. I own the server that we use for on-site registration. A disaster struck on the way to #mfm2025.
The server we've been using is a ten year old i3 server in an ITX case I built years ago.

Alaska Airlines rebranded their milage program as "Atmos" and all I can think of is the surround sound from Dolby.
