An immense, steel toe capped menhir presides over a row of gravestones. Its pitted surface looks like pumice, holes and crevices being picked out by the late winter sunlight. The sky is cloudless blue fading into a pale pinkish grey on the horizon

First butterfly of the year, a peacock on gorse. Photo taken 22nd Feb 2026, St Cleer. Canโ€™t decide if it was hiding its fourth eye or if this was a mutation/aberration. #Cornwall #Butterflies #Insects @savebutterflies.bsky.social

Black and white filter applied to a mushroom shaped quoit. Three lichen encrusted menhirs merge together to prop up a semi circular capstone. The sky behind was unrelentingly grey in real life and just as grey once filtered.

Chรปn quoit from last yearโ€™s Penwith trip, in between some very wintry storms. #Cornwall #StandingStoneSunday

Four upright granite menhirs, of which only 3 are tall enough to reach, barely a huge triangular UFO/UAP like capstone. The sky is overcast and grey, a hedgerow lines the horizon with a single tree and below the dolmen are scattered stones in the grass, three forming an arc underneath the dolmen itself.

Pentre Ifan from Halloween 2024, doing its almost levitating capstone bit. A wonderful illusion that must have been part of its grandeur. #TombTuesday

Tell me about it, Dougal is 1/4 springer, 3/4 collie, and a bit calmer than puppy days but not much! (Although more neurotic, terrified of loud sounds). Able to start walking him on my own. Physio today said walking everyday -good. Also allowed to bike up to 30 mins. 2-3 weeks away from weights tho.

A long straight country lane runs vertically up along the left of the photo, ahead you can see an avenue of trees in the sunlight but the grass verge takes centre stage as a mossy, knobbly stone of about 1m 25 stands prod of the hedgerow.

A close up of the same stone taken side on. There are several holes in the stone and some indentations. If I didnโ€™t know its context (next to some Tinnerโ€™s works, not on the HER, it could be mistaken for an interesting and very ancient monument .

Interesting gate post at the edge of Crowโ€™s nest #Cornwall. I assume this was some sort of barrier to the tinnerโ€™s works here, and thatโ€™s what the holes were for. Not on the Cornwall HER. A faux menhir, but a nice one. #StandingStoneSunday

Less than 8 weeks after my knee op (after snapping my patella tendon - the right knee), crutches and braces are gone and Iโ€™m allowed on the indoor bike. Not yet comfortable but remarkable progress and keeps me on track for a return to running in June. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฆต๐Ÿ’ช #Running #Injury #RunSky

That sounds so familiar. Sigh. Itโ€™s same when footpaths get blocked (one landowner just threw away a load of signs replacing old ones) we report it and Cornwall Council have a 3 year backlog and then never deal with it after 3 years (one has been blocked for over 30!)

I was told by someone who works with rivers/water that this should be reported as a pollution incident to the Environment agency. (In fact he said to me any time you see brown water running off a field, report it, this is the only way we will get behaviour to change!)

About five rather green and quartz veined uprights either prop up or pay an enormous Kendal mint cake like slab of a capstone. The sky is overcast and the field surrounding is closely cropped grass only adding to the green tones of the whole photo

Immaculate Pawton quoit, one of the forgotten quoits of #Cornwall as itโ€™s not the easiest to access, but with itโ€™s huge quartz veined capstone, itโ€™s very impressive #StandingStoneSunday

Excellent, sounds like youโ€™re making great progress. Brace is ditched full time here, consultant suggested cheap walking poles for me to help practice a natural gait. He didnโ€™t want me to keep brace on a moment longer (been quite lucky there).

Managed to get it to 120 degrees after couple of new exercises, and while it wasnโ€™t exactly comfortable, it was sustainable for a little while.

31.01.2026 13:23 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Just remembered advice was to really raise the saddle, will do that at lunch. Iโ€™ve got 110 degree bend but current setting looked to be demanding a greater bend than that. Leg too stiff to make it much more than 110. Fun and games eh?

30.01.2026 09:02 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I got a bonus at last work place just before lock down and all cheapish ones had sold out except for this place in wadebridge which was only selling to those who lived in Cornwall , they had 2 left so managed to buy one there. Just tried to ride bike. Canโ€™t get leg to do one whole revolution yet!

Yeah I think we need 110 degrees for cycling motion. Gonna try and get on the indoor bike /turbo trainer tomorrow (didnโ€™t try today after being stuck in Plymouth gridlock for hour and a half on only my second day back driving ๐Ÿ˜ฌ.) half expecting to possibly only manage to turn it around 2 or 3 times.

29.01.2026 22:45 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Well crikey, out of private appt already. I could do the straight leg raise without issue and 90 degree knee bend. He said this is excellent progress, referred now to physio. Donโ€™t have to go back. Allowed to go on bike indoors but just to turn pedals. Running realistic 6 months after op date!!

29.01.2026 16:23 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Oh thatโ€™s annoying. Fortunately my surgeon left a fast schedule for getting me up on my feet (which one doctor frowned at and wouldnโ€™t have implemented but had left by the time physio went for her advice and he decided just go with my surgeonโ€™s schedule.) hopefully no reversing on that today!

Ouch thatโ€™s a pain. Here. Sort of. NHS consultant said yes brace can start coming off but then when I said Iโ€™m transitioning to private refused to say anything more as โ€˜orthopaedic surgeonsโ€™ have similar but differing views on recovery programs and he didnโ€™t want to contradict.

Finally got around to buying some of their latest releases (Yara Asmarโ€™s tintabulating โ€˜everyone I love is sleepingโ€™ + Wolfgang Perezโ€™s uneasy tropicalian โ€˜so oucoโ€™). Both superbโ€ฆ #MusicSky #CurrentListening

Managed to make it up Largin hill fort, for the first time, difficult given current immobility, but worth it. 2 days left before the brace comes off. Incredible place will look to return in summer when more mobile #Cornwall #FoweyValley #Trees #Rainforest #Hiking

Weekly threads like #StandingStoneSunday #TombTuesday show old postings and lack engagement. Xitter did this well before MechaHitler ran amok.

A small rectangular pit lined with slate slabs (modern) on two sides and exposed ancient stonework on two. At the base is a black and white (now black and green) set of tiles arranged in a pattern where there are three large black squares in a row broken up by white/green squares and around the middle on each corner of the square are four smaller black squares.

Four designs of monochromatic tiles are found from the region on an information board, the Pont croix, Finistere is a simple checker board pattern , another from Pont Croix is an octagon filled with a checker board pattern and in the centre another octagon with the sun inside. The third Le Gavre, Loire atlantique has a complex circular kaleidoscope like pattern and the fourth le Hogolo is as described in the previous photo.
