Mayor Mamdani Launches New Efforts to Take Sidewalk Sheds Down, Require Fewer Unnecessary Sheds

Holy crap, Mamdani is finally doing something to bring down sidewalk sheds that will actually sort of work! Sheds will no longer be required more than 40 ft. away from buildings, which will be a help to NYCHA and other towers-in-a-park complexes www.nyc.gov/mayors-offic...

the thing with hegseth and trump both is they're all like "why didn't anyone do it like this before" and it's because it's just all war crimes

Kristi Noem’s firing is long overdue. She oversaw vile crimes against humanity and we’ll never forget it.

But until ICE is abolished and expelled from our communities, we keep fighting.

Lawless federal agents kidnapping and killing people on our streets can never be normalized.

March 5, 1776 (Morning): British Gen. William Howe awakes to learn the American Army has overnight occupied Dorchester Heights above Boston and fortified it with cannon. β€œThe rebels have done more in one night than my whole army would have done in months,” he is reported to say in astonishment. 1/7

Well, you could. One branch of the gov't loans money to another branch (happens a lot). Your earlier point is the issue for me, tho: either the cheap infrastructure is being paid for with fees on depositors, or the low-fee accounts are being cross-subsidized by the interest on loans. Can't be both.

Its one thing to read the histories and realize that fascism is an ideology by and for weird losers who suck at everything, and another to live through it

These guys were selling t-shirts until they needed a war to cover up the intentional damage they did to the economy and the president's involvement in a pedophilia scandal.

I am 100% convinced that a big political drama about that specific historical period (the lead up to and aftermath of the Mexican-American War) would be a massive hit today. We're in a bizarrely similar era.

War is not a morality play.

The relevant question isn’t: Are the targets bad people who have done bad things?

The relevant question is: Will going to war make things better, achieving something that’s worth the death and suffering it causes?

We seem to have collectively decided, gradually and mostly out of apathy, that presidents can launch flagrantly unconstitutional wars of choice without congressional approval and there just won’t be any consequences. Would be nice if this is where we start reversing the trend.

Paramount should enjoy its growing news monopoly while they have it because when Democrats win back power we are going to break up these anti-democratic information conglomerates. All of them.

This really feels like an Orban/Erdogan situation in which the aspiring dictator is making sure his friendly oligarchs control as much media as possible

ICE agents entered a Columbia University dorm this morning, apparently under false pretenses and without a judicial warrant, and detained a student.

It is an important reminder to all of us β€” and particularly our institutions β€” about the need for collective vigilance against ICE.

Most of the contributors to β€œAgainst Trump” did not, contrary to what mainstream coverage at the time suggested, take a principled stand against the forces of rightwing extremism, they weren’t concerned with policing the fringes of the Right.

They just didn’t trust Trump to be a proper rightwinger.
