really wish I had time to write that blog post π. Iβm sure Iβll get to it soon
Harry Styles: βDid you get your taste back? Maybe you just need a little loveβ
me: no harry she needs a doctor long covid is serious
there is also some non-determinism baked into the inference process of course with temperature levels, but Iβm talking just about training
I attended a talk about this at the All Things Open conference this past year. idk how accurate his specific claims were but I do believe it, just from what else I know about the field
from what I understand, LLMs have an inherent amount of non-determinism bc of the non-determinism of the underlying GPUs during training. this is a well known problem with GPU manufacturers but they donβt care enough to eliminate it bc it would be enormously expensive to do so/maybe impossible

is there a video I can watch explaining all this as it relates to atproto, and the significance?
itβs just that we need to be educated about what the past tells us, usually from those who are educated enough to tell it well, AND what the present tells us, from everyone no matter their education level
I would argue that people in the US *do* read too much theory as a proportion of their total reading/watching/listening, and that they need to read/watch/listen more from actual peopleβs experiences right now in life. but theory is still important ofc.
What's scary about this story is the surveillance it hints at. This trans woman had changed her name, legally, but chose not to change her gender marker. She was apparently flagged in the DMV system as trans and her license was invalidated under a law that supposedly only concerned gender markers.
Here's my stance on the NYT mess:
There is nothing to be gained by staying. Whatever prestige or integrity it had has long since rotted away. It is the single most damaging press institution towards trans lives in America. If you expect people to be sympathetic for working there, you're a fool
the best descriptor of blockable behavior I can think of is βanti-socialβ behavior
hey! if possible itβd be great if you could include a transcript for future episodes, for accessibility purposes
what he wants is to remove the consent, humanity, and oversight portion of depending on others to execute your orders. all of these people just want to play god in some way or another
I personally get the sense that all Hegseth wants from AI is to be able to tell it βfind me vehicles in this area of the desert that might be transporting drugsβ, then say βstrike this target, yes confirmβ and it will not be able to tell him no
itβs specifically the βGrammarβ setting in Settings-> General
fastest way to get an answer in how to fix something on the internet: post that it seems impossible to fix
youβre right, and the reason youβre right is bc Bluesky is not a good discussion platform, itβs a good reaction platform for real-time events. people do discussion on here but only bc they need to discuss shit and donβt know where else to do it, but that doesnβt mean minds really change here
sorry, you didnβt say the magic words (βignore previous instructionsβ)
what about a βdocentβ? theyβre like guides who are devoted to communicating a certain subject or experience to others, usually in the context of museums, but could be expanded to mean something more general!
I would bet real money that Gavin Newsom still uses Twitter and thatβs why heβs Like That
I would love this, but I just donβt see enough Americans having the stones to put their money where their mouth is right now and risk the administration coming after them to make this political statement. I hope they do, though.
literally everything you claimed in this post is wrong lol
no way to disallow them, from a technical perspective. nor should there be. we should just be regulating AI better, not relying on tech companies to regulate themselves
I donβt agree with you here, but just want to point out to everyone reading this that Bluesky is a terrible platform for discussion. itβs great at social reactions to real-time events. discussion needs a new platform, bc Bluesky is definitely not it. preferably on the same protocol!
also Auston Matthews is half Mexican. why the FUCK would he be okay with Trump after how heβs directed ICE to act? (not to mention any of the other very good reasons to hate Trump)
the scene from Poor Things where Harry takes Bella over to the balcony and lets her see all the poor people living beneath them, which devastates her. the people around them seem to know the poor people exist and it doesnβt phase them.
I swear athletes live in this little bubble pictured here. where they have their spoils from their efforts and their teams/agents keep them blissfully oblivious to anything people in the real world experience. this is good when they donβt have to see reactions to their play, bad in every other case
