An oil on canvas painting of a woman dressed in a beautiful white or silver gown in the style of the 1800s, sitting on a large and plush couch, holding a large wooden harp in her lap that she is playing as she looks directly at the artist. There are volumes of velvet curtain behind her, a book of music on the couch next to her, and other rich looking furnishings around the room.
Today weโre sharing this beautiful portrait of Miss Catherine OโConor and her harp for our second post in #MusicMarch!
Did you know that Ireland is the only country to have a musical instrument (the harp) as its national symbol?

Middle East conflict is 'assault on international law'
President Catherine Connolly has described the situation in the Middle East as a "deliberate assault on international law".
โWhat we have witnessed in recent days in the Middle East, and beyond, are not political disputes. They are deliberate assaults on international law, the international laws that have underpinned global peace for 80 years.โ @president.ie

'Evening, Killarney.' (1941) Speaking to an art critic in the 1930s, Paul Henry said: 'What always strikes me about the Irish landscape is its otherworldliness. There's an air of mystery about it ... you feel that anything may happen round the corner.'

Although I havenโt been able to identify the sculptor of the marble Virgin and Child, the six paintings on copper that depict the Life of Our Lady were made by Patrick Pye to mark the cathedralโs 200th anniversary in 1999. 2/2

Tucked away in the northwest corner of the Cathedral of St Mary and St Anne is a little gem of a space.
The tall, octagonal Lady Chapel is light-filled and animated by the intentions and flicker of votive candles. 1/2

Three terracotta statues of Orpheus, sitting on a stool and playing his instrument, and two sirens, half human and half bird, standing in front of him.
Three terracotta statues of Orpheus, sitting on a stool and playing his instrument, and two sirens, half human and half bird, standing in front of him.
A highlight of early Hellenistic Taranto is the stunning terracotta group of Orpheus and the Sirens, recently returned from the Getty to Italy. While striking, their original setting, possibly on a funerary monument, remains a mystery.

The Curragh.' (1914) This painting by Irish artist Paul Henry is full of drama, accentuated by the use of a high horizon and tall waves as if to remind us of the danger facing the crew of this small boat. It brings home the harsh life of the islanders on Achill off County Mayo.
