If a bit of silliness is ok, I adore the The Last Dragonslayer by Jasper Fforde (first in The Chronicles of Kazam series). Modern setting that mashes together technology, magic, and mystery. Plus Jennifer Strange is a GREAT protagonist.

Well that was a roller coaster of a day… My wife was spared in a pretty big round of layoffs at her job, and then I found out a good friend accepted a role with my employer. Things are rough out there, it’s good to notice and be grateful when fortune smiles on you!

We dug for a while, then I remembered my ramps and ran home to get those. After a bit more cleaning with the digging bar we backed the car onto the ramps and up off the compacted sleet. A bit more cleaning and it was free! High fives and handshakes all around! 2/

While walking our dog this morning I saw a family with their SUV stuck, high centered on the snowcrete still plaguing the DC area. They were doing the awkward and dangerous work of shoveling underneath the vehicle. I brought the dog home and came back with my digging bar and another shovel. 1/

I, too, am taking Amtrak today. The 10:30am from D.C. to NYC and... we're not there yet. 🫠 Multiple delays including downed trees. But, the heat and power are on, the wifi is plentiful, and the views are beautiful. I'll take a 3 hour train delay over a 3 hour airline delay any day of the week!

That's the part that boggles my mind. Generative AI as a technology can be genuinely useful, but these companies (and billionaires behind them) have sold it to us by wrapping it in a skin suit and hoping we were more amazed than horrified.

As someone who works in tech and identifies as a creative, I'm quite torn about generative AI. I find it fascinating and powerful but I'm horrified at how it's being marketed and utilized. I just took some time to write up my thoughts.
