Yesterday afternoon, Environment Minister, Tanya Plibersek approved four new coal expansions.

Her office then put out a post claiming she'd approved no new coal mines this year.

This government was elected on a climate mandate, promising to end the climate wars.

They lied.

HOW TO FILTER OUT AI IMAGES IN GOOGLE IMAGES

When you type something add the following minus keywords: -ai, -prompt

Since AI movement increased highly in 2022, use "before:" like before:2021 (VERY effective)

The following keywords will affect and should decrease amounts of AI imagery appearing on your search.

Create, not scrape!

Sharing this with my students so I figured I'd also share it with everyone here.

Hopefully this image is still relevant given Google's changes. Save this on your computer or phone and refer to it as needed.

I more I play with this stuff the more useless I realise it is. And it’s only going to get worse as it starts feeding on itself.

Ship collision risk threatens whales across the world’s oceans After the near-complete cessation of commercial whaling, ship collisions have emerged as a primary threat to large whales, but knowledge of collision risk is lacking across most of the world’s oceans....

the biggest killer of #Whales, is #shipping...
40% of all shipping is to carry #fossilfuels...

So, Mr Dutton, how about we deal with what is the biggest threat to whales, seeing as you are suddenly Mr Environmental concern about #wind farms! #auspol

Opinion: The ugly downsides of Canada’s costly obsession with electric vehicles Pumping billions into battery production intensifies the car culture when we should be getting rid of cars

“EVs enjoy a global image that is entirely unjustified. The pitch – buy an EV and save the planet – is just nonsense. Their presence will still disfigure cities, pushing politicians and developers to build new parking lots, roads and highways to gratify the endless swarms of drivers.”

Finland is building a giant heat pump to cut CO2 from warming homes The heat pump will be part of a plant that will warm around 30,000 homes in Finland’s capital city.

IMPORTANT: Finland is building the world’s largest heat pump to warm homes in Helsinki. It would decarbonize the city’s district heating system by end of 2026.

“Helsinki has set the ambitious goal to become carbon neutral by 2030, and transitioning our heating system is crucial to achieving this.”

Compare that for the $120 million over 4-years for cycling infrastructure. 🤣

THIS IS AMAZING!

This is the planned bike path network for the #Paris region for 2025.

It will involve 450 kms of lanes. Not just #Paris intra-muros (within the Périphérique) but Grand Paris—a true regional network, incorporating long-neglected banlieues (suburbs).

I'd suggest if something really is an important heritage item, then a museum, government, etc, should purchase it.

Otherwise, let people do what they want with their own property.

Fenders should be a legal requirement in all urban environments — same as a bell and light.

Don’t see how this can work without fundamentally changing the way the internet works.

Yup! Should be advocating for wider bike lanes so they can use them. They do this in NYC and the Netherlands. Probably more places too.

Doctors warn Doug Ford that ripping out bike lanes will lead to more ‘brutal’ injuries When it comes to prevention, the research is clear: Bike lanes reduce collisions between vehicles and bicycles

1> “Unlike a lot of conditions that we treat in our health-care system, [road] trauma is almost entirely preventable, and it affects people of all ages,” says Yarnell, a doctor who specializes in treating patients on life support.”

Private prisons are shrouded in secrecy. I took a job as a guard to get inside—then things got crazy This is the biggest investigation we’ve ever published.

Trump's promise of mass deportation has caused private prison stock to soar. Time to re-read Shane Bauer's incredible investigation where he went undercover for months as a private prison guard. It's long, it's harrowing, it won all the awards: www.motherjones.com/politics/201...

We should mandate mandatory cargo bike off-street parking in the zoning rules. 😜

Energy Exemplar has blocked all TU Berlin students from academic licences for their energy modelling tool PLEXOS because competitor PyPSA is developed here. While deeply shocked, we believe in turning the other cheek. So we are offering all Energy Exemplar employees a free licence for PyPSA.

Never forget, if you design a city for cars, it fails for everyone, including drivers.

If you design a multi-modal city that makes walking, biking and public transit attractive options, it works better for everyone, including drivers.

INCLUDING DRIVERS.

The “war on cars” has always been a lie.
