slop consequences π₯Ή
I have no illusions that there's gonna be any once slop code does harm, tho. After all, companies got away with all kinds for hand-crafted, artisanal negligence for decades.

As of 26.1, Black forces 1 line after imports whichβno matter how you feel about thatβconflicts with flake8βs E302 that enforces 2 empty lines btw classes/functions.
I've been told that it was in --preview for a yr & nobody complained⦠I can hear Douglas Adams giggling.

bunch of days over 5Β°C and the plants are fucking already π€§π
on the bright side, attrs is now doing half a BILLION downloads per MONTH
which is like 140 million too little for the pypi top 20. oh god i hope fastly never lets us down

@bitprophet wait until you learn about entrΓ©e
even the login form doesnβt work
getting a sense of how they implemented it
Geeklist, a site I donβt remember being on, is breathlessly announcing how itβs back and AI-first
impeccable timing
itβs very disheartening to try to walk the line between βif you need help, reach outβ and βdonβt waste our time with thoughtless slopβ
got hit by a wave of slop prs last week so i guess itβs time to buckle down and spend my morningβ¦
writing an ai policy
this looks-legitimate-but-trash slop reminds me of corporate phishing tests
the biggest tragedy for me is that iβve spent A LOT of time and energy to encourage contributions [β¦]
@offby1 it's the βonly what almighty rob pike likes is goodβ cult manifest
@glyph itβs a whole genre now https://mastodon.social/@hynek/115786979597136845
@glyph @offby1 @tintvrtkovic @bitprophet We tried to use it for a while and we didnβt lose data but I recall massive scrubbing problems that essentially brought systems to a halt. Everything is ext4 for boot and ZFS for data ever since. The bigger problem is that IIRC itβs not really maintained [β¦]
@offby1 @glyph @tintvrtkovic @bitprophet I only know about Synology because they use it for marketing which is weird because I donβt trust btrfs at all
@glyph @SnoopJ @jannem I regret to inform you that most of this is βif everybody justβ¦β energy and sadly βnobody will ever justβ, otherwise theyβd already βjust did itβ :|
@glyph My optimistic take is that this might get us into implementing a better control over build deps story. As I wrote the last timesimiΓΆar things happened: better deprecations warnings are nice but a red herring. We need a way to keep software alive that isnβt actively maintained anymore even [β¦]
@glyph @tintvrtkovic @bitprophet Fascinatingly, Synology is a heavy btrfs user, tho
https://www.synology.com/en-us/dsm/Btrfs
@glyph @tintvrtkovic @bitprophet Same as ReiserFS before it and bcachefs Β―\\_(γ)_/Β―
My best guess is that serious people run ZFS and that sucks all the air from the ecosystem.
@glyph @tintvrtkovic @bitprophet > Btrfs is coming to more and more linux distros as the default root filesystem
It was a different time wasnβt it
@glyph Thanks to my vigorous blocking itβs so easy to forget what a toxic cesspool of self-righteous nerds this place can be. The latest reminder was when they essentially hounded off Veronica Explains/Linux Mom for daring to complain about creepy shit (not linking her on purpose). Occasionally [β¦]

@glyph so exciting to finally find all the places this straw was load-bearing
happy `ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'pkg_resourcesβ` day to all who celebrate #setuptools
the fact that the most important Hynek in #kcd2 is an ugly drunkard that everybody hates but who gets important shit done is beautifully autobiographic π₯²
@glyph yeah FWIW TB undock crashes my notebook, if it's in clamshell only. It never crashed when I opened it first which is annoying yet here we are. Sequoia wasn't 100% for me either, tho
