Itβs not an opinion! Theyβre using that as a selling point and some of them are saying itβs already here! I just think you donβt want to cede my argument any ground, because all of these thingsβAGI, AI psychosis, manipulative marketingβare obviously connected and part of my point. You just disagree
That is the kind of manipulative marketing that AI companies routinely engage in to hook people into thinking the technology can dramatically improve their lives by taking over their responsibilities their creativity, their connections with others, etc, which obviously encourages unhealthy thinking
Had the ad just showed the AI making a spreadsheet that would be one thing, but thatβs not what the ad showed. The ad showed the AI user literally leaving the office because it could do their job for them.
Thatβs just an example of an AI company overpromising what the technology could doβliterally, in their own words, give you the day off because it can perform all the functions of your job. There are other links ITT regarding companies treating AI like a form of godlike super intelligence
They THINK they are reaching that level of insight. This is particularly the pattern you see from people engaged in some form of AI psychosis, but Iβd argue that in general itβs a slippery slope between trusting that AI can actually inform your whole life and viewing it as a godlike figure
But when you tell people stuff like this is coming or already here, as some of these companies are still doing, then you encourage delusional thinking and tech illiteracyβOpenAI has publicly disclosed their suspected rates of ChatGPT psychosis and even their estimates have staggering implication
Itβs a fantasy. They sold people on the idea of it and then backtracked because itβs not real and imo fundamentally impossible. Itβs like promising time travel is on the horizon

One literally said AI could do your entire job for you so you could take the day off instead.
Are you familiar with the concept of AGI lol
If you caught the Super Bowl this year youβd see that across several of the top AI companiesβ ads.
Hmmm no I think thereβs pretty strong, consistent evidence that the AI industry oversells the technologyβs capabilities to a gullible public that now uses AI throughout the day for all manner of tasks.
Thatβs so dark.
Yes!
Which part?
They fund it in Gaza. They're doing it to Venezuelan fisherman. They're doing it in Iran. They're doing it in the streets and in concentration camps to immigrants in the US. They've done it to US citizen protestors on the streets in Minnesota.
There are no limits to what they are capable of.
They want to believe. Itβs exciting to imagine you have an unbiased source of all knowledge, including insights into your own private life
That is almost certainly happening as we speak
I donβt think LLMs would take off without this kind of userbase, because theyβre the ones talking to ChatGPT and Grok all day every day because they think theyβre reaching Jesus levels of insight. This is why the technology gets called a scam, because the industry is definitely scamming these people
So a lot of the hype around LLMs and a lot of the userbase just fundamentally misunderstands what the technology is and what itβs capable of, instead treating it like a mythical supernatural or religious being. The industry openly encourages this delusion for profit
The thing is, a lot of LLM users actually think itβs capable of God-like intelligence, and thatβs clear from the ways they interact with it publicly
I love watching people use LLMs in public. Theyβll reply to a breaking news article and say β@grok is this true?β Babe where do you think itβs about to pull its answer from
New from 404 Media: Proton Mail, the privacy-focused email service, gave authorities data that let the FBI unmask an anonymous 'Stop Cop City' protester. It was payment data linked to the anonymous email account. From that, FBI ID'd them, then tracked their movements www.404media.co/proton-mail-...
BREAKING: @aoc.bsky.social just came out swinging in the House E&C hearing against dangerous & misguided "age verification" legislation (aka online ID checks) that would force everyone to upload government ID or get a face scan before accessing content or posting online.
Video incoming. This is big
Yes, there are still leftists thereβthatβs not the point Iβm making, the point Iβm making is that anyone of any political persuasion still on X is posting into a right wing radicalization pipeline. That may not change them but it absolutely influences what theyβre seeing and the feedback they get
itβs only an echo chamber when itβs the left. when itβs the right they call it some bullshit like the Agora or the Town Square
I mean, it is odd that everyone decrying this place as an 'echo chamber' is totally comfortable hanging out on the Nazi CSAM web site run by a white supremacist who fine tuned its algorithm to turn users fascist
Yesss I think thatβs a fair and accurate analysis. Out of all the platforms, I think itβs bar none the best for seeing and commenting on important news, while also keeping this in mind
Iβm so sorry Rachel, but so amazed by your reporting and resilience β€οΈ
Sorry I'm not more open-minded about LLMs, it's just some fucking maniacs shoveled out a bunch of useless bloatware featuring that technology, did not give me any chance to opt out, reorganized the entire economy around it, zeroed out gains made by green energy, and made it impossible to buy RAM
