I used to be obsessed with Gibran back in the day. Did you know there’s a memorial garden dedicated to him across the street from the British embassy?

I photograph, eat, and drink across DC; I'm obsessed with beer and Iceland; Íslandvinur; bon vivant. Put an egg on it!™ Measurements in metric unless noted! Reykjavík food recommendations: https://samer.is/eating-reykjavik

You flying home tomorrow or Monday morning?
A green swathe of northern lights across the top half of the photo, with some moonlit clouds below. There is a pointy mountain visible and some of the green is reflected in windblown water below.
Finally got to see northern lights in the early hours of this morning. I always wake up in the night, & occasionally check out the window. There was some green light (visible with the phone) so I got dressed & went out! A bit cloudy (& very windy), & the cloud grew, but nice to see them :)

A couple are silhouetted against a backdrop of some stacks and some hills which are backlit by the nearly-disappearing sun (behind storm clouds). They are walking on sand dunes among grasses which you can just see.
A couple walk on Vík beach as the sun sets behind another hailstorm cloud.

Wild!
Went for a 10k walk this morning. 1:53! Gotta get into shape for my next two weeks walking around Europe.
Hey, Alexandria, Shababi chicken are doing a drop at Dept of Beer and Wine next weekend. Get your delicious chicken and if you go, tell Marcelle I said hi!

Are there any cool small ones? The ones I wind up seeing on social media are big and bulky, or reasonable sedans, but I like compact. Really wish Honda would bring the e back!
Right. Years of Apple’s HID convinced me that the important button is always on the right.
I’m right handed and my first written language was right to left.
My favorite book!
We had a pretty cold winter for DC, so I guess they’re predicting later this year.
Peak cherry blossom is end of the month and start of April. I’ll be back home by then, sadly.
I bet Paradiso still has them. They were delicious the last time I had them.
The scam has been around for years, but we're hearing about Arlington residents again getting "jury duty" calls from someone falsely claiming to be local law enforcement.
Reminder: this is a scam, do not pay them or give them personal information. From 2023...

New post up on Beer Diary — a look through the occasionally grim and sometimes baffling catalogue of the upcoming Rogue Ales liquidation auction inspired some thoughts on the precarious cultural history of "craft beer" in volatile times.
I'm gonna walk more hats to the post office today.
We've got TRYING beanies in maroon and olive and LIMITED EDITION SAFETY GREEN.

Screenshot of the ten day forecast for Reykjavík from the Acme Weather app. I’ve circled Saturday the 14th, which will range from -8 to -1. Guess I gotta bring the warm coat.
I’m looking forward to enjoying some svikavor in a short while
Naturally, we have a term for this. Svikavor or spring of betrayal.
Happy happy birthday!
It is 7pm on a Friday night and I am on the sofa watching Crufts, occasionally shouting things like "LOOK AT HIS CHOPS!" at the TV. How's your weekend going?
Ha! I should go to Hoppers next week if I have the time.
An almost B&W photo (but not!) of waves receding over some rocks on a black sand beach. In the distance are some mountain peaks under thick grey cloud, the tops obscured.
Even without the mountains showing, Stokksnes is still really special. Bit obsessed with these rocks!

"but where can i hear an atmospheric post-black metal song from the perspective of a honey bee watching humans get drunk on mead" you ask?
come witness: your unholy prayers have been answered
I don’t remember my CompuServe or ICQ numbers, but I remember the phone number of the bar that’s been closed at least a decade and a half.
Yeah. At this point for me, it’s a toss up between not having a car (I don’t use mine often), or going through the annoyance to get power put into my parking spot in the garage and getting an EV. Sadly, the longer small EVs take to get here, the less I want a car.
The one in Arlington is also very good! Also excellent: Tiger Fork.
There’s a lot of tigers.
Three phase power will do this if one of the three lines is degraded!
