I've written up my thoughts on the biggest challenges facing social media and how I think it needs to evolve. What it comes down to is that we need more humans and less bots.

The Future of Social Media is Human
If you're a human, then join us today.
Hey #ATProto fans, there is a lot of excitement about new social networks integrating humanity verification, but did you know that we have already implemented this using ATProtoβs labels/verifications?
Check us out: onlyhumanhub.com
Itβs nice to see other platforms identifying the same problems we have. Humanity verification is the only way to avoid social media turning into a hellscape. If they can get traction then all power to them.
Of course, weβd love to help if we can.
Exciting to see other platforms being built with human verification in mind.
We have already shipped a privacy-first human verifier and integrated it into Bluesky. Join us!

This is very close to what I built @onlyhumanhub.com. Except no photo verification needed and it runs on Bluesky and offers a labeler.

We've launched a refreshed front page and some fixes to our verification process. If you ran into problems before, now would be the time to give it another try!

How many bots do you think are among the followers of this account?
Just on this first page, we'd say it's 13/17 or 76%.
Obviously there is no way to prove this. But we do have a way to help you prove that you are definitely a human.

On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog.
On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog.
That will be meaningless since it won't be using our label.
This means that even if our database is stolen *and* our encryption keys are stolen too, the attacker will not be able to read information which identifies you.
For more info, including an explanation of exactly what data we collect, see our privacy policy page: onlyhumanhub.com/privacy
No app should ever store raw government IDs without any encryption. Even though we require passports for verification, we don't and never will store any pictures of your passports or any data from your passport in plain text.
We even go a step further and hash your data, so it's irreversible.
Congrats! Now you can use that passport to verify as a human with us π
yes, but without the need to scan your eyes, seems preferable.
The data that passportreader.app holds isn't held for long (it's deleted after a few hours).
The data that we hold is hashed and encrypted, so even if our database was to be hacked or leaked in some way, nobody would be able to retrieve the original data.
What else would you suggest?
Nope, because those are easy to fake.
The only other way is to do iris scanning (that's what another company is doing). Other than that there is no other way.
What problem did you run into?
Itβs been more than 6 months now and that hasnβt happened.
Good reason for people to get a passport. Though other IDs should work too.
We didnβt just come out though. Weβve been around for a while.
Some governments perhaps. But not all.
Though if there is an opportunity to integrate these systems for some governments, weβd love to do it.
Actually, it is very different. Our app never sees your passport photo. The only data from your passport it stores is hashed and encrypted. So even if our database were to be stolen *and* our encryption key were to be stolen (very big ifs), it would not be possible to get that information back.
Multiple posts on Bluesky by bots (hosted on casjay.social and okashi.social). Each proclaiming love for someone called Sonny.
Multiple bot accounts posting very similar advertisements for Darksiders 4.
You donβt have to look far these days to see bots on Bluesky, and these ones are obvious. What about the ones which arenβt?
The best way through this is to verify your humanity and join our community of humans.

@ericmb.bsky.social welcome to our verified human community!
While youβre doing this, you can verify yourself with us and get a Verified Human label on your profile.

Hmm, how did you open the Iris ID app? It sounds like it wants you to scan the QR code that our site shows when you click the "Verify" button... but scanning that QR code using your phone camera should give you a link which auto opens the Iris ID app. Is that what you did?
You should align it so that the full page is visible, in the same way as my specimen image above.
