A leek in the ground, surrounded by weeds, throwing out magnificent blue-green strap-like leaves with absolutely no rust.
Three trimmed leeks on a wooden chopping board
Weeding the rhubarb down on the allotment at the weekend and what should I find? Only the best leeks I've (n)ever grown!

The Wandering Queen by Claire Heywood sits on a bookshop shelf, with cover facing out toward the viewer. The cover is purple with white title text, and imagery of a woman's face above crashing waves.
My third novel, The Wandering Queen, is a historical fiction retelling of the legendary Queen Dido - founder of Carthage and tragic heroine of Virgil's Aeneid.
Out now in the UK and US! π

Best bit (other than the taste) is that you can make a big batch, roll it into a sausage, wrap in parchment, and freeze. Then you can slice off half a dozen disks to bake whenever you fancy.
Also bringing hot drinks/meals and giving mum the space to drink/eat them hot.
And if mum is considering breastfeeding, I can dig out a recipe for lactation cookies that were so yummy my husband ate the lions share!
Congratulations! I agree w everything @belovedofoizys.bsky.social and others have said. It's amazing how feeds seem to run into each other, esp if breastfeeding. There were times that I hadn't left my bedroom by 2pm, desperate for food/drink/shower. Being on hand w snacks or 10 min breaks is gold!

A lot of Brits confessed to pressing the big, red Brexit button to see what would happen. Frighteningly, I don't think that masochistic itch has yet been scratched.

"They say they're coming to save us from some evil? They're talking about our neighbors who take care of us ... Alex was murdered while he was helping. Mr Rogers said look for the helpers, & right now the helpers have a target on our forehead ... Mr Rogers would be here right now too, so I'm here."

Trump knows Carney spanked him at Davos and is now having a predictable petty despotic meltdown. But what he will never understand is that in doing so he is proving the points Carney made in his landmark speech.
What's making me really livid right now is thinking back to the years of commentary lecturing us that the rise of MAGA was rooted in a sense of righteous victimization by overbearing liberal elites, and sneering at those who insisted that it was fundamentally about domination and sadism all along.
