I think how well mechanics and theme are tied together and how well the flow is between the two, goes a long way to helping that. UI design is also another key part, ie player aids, board layout, etc. The more intuitive game flow is and less hidden rules, the easier the barrier of entry.

I’m kind of curious how well Modiphius’s other ttrpgs would work solo as well. The 2d20 system and their quest setup in Captain’s Log feels similar to Ironsworn & Starforged

I haven’t seen it myself, but it could be more expensive than MSRP because, as I understand it, the first set had an extremely limited print run.

They’re supposed to be doing another print in December, I believe, along with the next set. So hopefully it becomes more in stock, and prices come down
