This is a huge concern πŸ§ͺ

A red imported fire ant nest was on 3 March found by a member of public in Lamington national park in the Gold Coast hinterland, a section of ancient rainforest that is internationally recognised for its extraordinary biodiversity

Marsupials previously thought extinct for millennia discovered in New Guinea The chances of finding one mammal species thought to be lost was β€˜almost zero’ and finding two is β€˜unprecedented’, biologist Tim Flannery says

Celebrate the positive when it comes along:
Two charismatic marsupial species that had been thought extinct for 6,000 years are alive in rainforest in remote West Papu

Qld coalmine expansion approved by Albanese government will clear habitat and fuel climate crisis, scientists say Conservationists estimate coal exported from expanded mine to release CO2 equivalent of about half Australia’s annual carbon footprint

The Guardian view on risks from biodiversity collapse: warnings must be heeded before it’s too late | Editorial Editorial: Inadequate food supplies and collapsing rainforests must be recognised as national security threats – not pigeonholed as green issues

Discontinuity is here. Climate and ecological disruptions are having unprecedented impacts in the lives of every person on Earth.

And, yes, that has profound security implications.

"Nature is a foundation of national security" is exactly right.

Periodic reminder that without biodiversity, we’re all doomed.

Let’s not brush it aside and focus solely on carbon (obviously critical).

Focusing on carbon while sidelining biodiversity is a catastrophic mistake.

Biodiversity isn’t optional. It’s fundamental to our very existence.

Hi Diego- so it looks like you’re the one who crashed against the ceiling. Apparently starter packs can only have 120 people. I’ll consider whether to start a second one or to convert it to a list. Just need to do some research on how to do that

Biodiversity offsets failed to protect habitat in NSW. Now federal Labor is about to make the same mistakes, critics warn Offsets were meant to be a last resort for mitigating environmental damage from development projects, but rapidly became the default

Offsets are such a bloody stupid idea. The idea of equivalence is false. Pretending to conserve species and habitat while simply carrying out business as usual. Anyone who works in the conservation space knows this πŸ§ͺ
