"If I was to use ChatGPT for my designs rather than our designer Sean, that's taking money out of the local area into the hands of a multibillionaire ... removing value from the local community and local artists [and] into the hands of some of the richest people in the world."

For Pokémon’s 30th anniversary, Nature spoke to scientists from around the world about how their work has been shaped by playing Pokémon games, watching animated TV series and films and trading cards in school playgrounds. 🧪
"Science describes accurately from outside, poetry describes accurately from inside. Science explicates, poetry implicates. Both celebrate what they describe. We need the languages of both science and poetry to save us from merely stockpiling endless ‘information’ that fails to inform our ignorance or our irresponsibility." from "Deep in Admiration" by Ursula K. Le Guin
"Deep in Admiration" was a talk given at the conference Anthropocene: Arts of Living on a Dangerous Planet at UC Santa Cruz in May 2014. The text appears as the foreword to the collection Late in the Day: Poems 2010-2014 (published by PM Press).

in my experience, safe state queers often look down on and underestimate those of us in what they call 'flyover country'.
there is often an assumption that barely any trans people live in these states and that we of course wish to live elsewhere. we should not have to leave our home for rights.

4 panel silly comic in black lines only. A blob guy has a big pencil. It says “I draw”. In the second panel he seems happy with his drawing and it says “all done yeah”. Panel 3 shows him holding up the drawing of a triangle with legs and a happy face. He goes “come on”. In the final panel he’s very pleased with himself, closes his eyes and tells himself “I’m a bit incredible”
Come on
that's fucking wild and i hope everything turns out ok!!
(also the pregnancy test might just be a health insurance requirement before they agree to cover the surgery? i feel like insurance is usually the source of dumb healthcare decisions.. )
A black and white illustration with text reading "Substack is creating a walled garden you have to share with white supremacists". The illustration shows a round brick wall holding part of quote, some flowers, and a draped nazi flag. this is surrounded by barbed wire
I have watched more & more friends turn to Substack in the past few months. PLEASE DON'T DO THIS! #Substack has well-documented problems with platforming literal Nazis, as well as writers spreading Covid misinformation, anti-vaccine propaganda, & transphobia. Long post here:

Photo of a sculpture against a light grey backdrop. The sculpture is a twisting brown-grey thorn branch with leaves on the left end. Perched on the branch is what appears to be a bird that is also a strawberry, viewed from the back.
Sculpting another branch-y thing today and thinking about this Strawberry Bird again.
Here's a look at the back of "A Curious Caution".

I saw a thing earlier today, one of those "quote with your faces" things, but I lost it.
But then I was thinking about these dorks all day - so here they are:

a handmade marionette monster photographed in front of a snowbank. it has long arms with branch-like hands, a long neck with a false human face & a lower jaw like a sperm whale, & is dressed in all white/off-white lace & rags with pearl accents. watermark says "Ezra Rose"
a close up of the face of the marionette with its open jaw & teeth visible below.
i know i've been pretty quiet but here's the result of my January: a totally handmade, fully-functional marionette created for a local winter-themed puppet show. she's called the Winter Maw & she'll eat you alive, just like real winter

Congress passed the Taft-Hartley Act in 1947 (over Truman's veto) to make general strikes so incredibly difficult to organize that there hasn't been one since.
That there is a general strike happening in a major US city on such short notice is nothing short of a miracle.
