and yet somehow I've managed to bike everywhere I need to go (work, errands, leisure) without annoying anyone. I live on an arterial and every day I hear tons of loud engines. it doesn't last for five seconds, it lasts for thirty or more, over and over
riding a bike is how I travel. I don't own a car. if you want to have a dangerous hobby that's your prerogative, but it's disrespectful to annoy everyone else because you think it makes your dangerous hobby slightly safer

it actually makes them more safe to drive. the slower you go, the more reaction time you have and the less lethal your car is to bikers and pedestrians

that is a feature. making places difficult to drive makes them safer and more pleasant to walk and bike. and when cars do drive there, they often driver more slowly and carefully. you should not need a car for 99% of tasks in a city
if you want to be safe, don’t ride the most dangerous possible vehicle you could. ride actual bikes (bicycles) and take buses and trains. riding a super dangerous vehicle then annoying everyone within a quarter mile to make it marginally safer is just selfish
bike and train infrastructure lasts way longer, let’s build more of that

and bikers are at risk from injuries! bigger trucks and SUVs can easily knock those barriers over a few feet. sounds to me like we need even more speed reduction and traffic calming
