I sketched out an app a while back for a social publishing tool where all posts had to be >400 words and had to respond to a prior post (there would be an ur-post naturally). Only complete thoughts. Isolated guttural reaction posts considered harmful. Substack but the posts connect?
Sometimes I think itβd be worthwhile to start the company that makes a LinkedIn clone on every new decentralized social network.
Why do lions attack the slowest zebra?
Bluesky needs longer character limits. Twitter had an implementation that was just fine (truncate in feeds) and expanded what the network could be used for.
I donβt understand why they made code default to nonisolated in the old design. Maybe thatβs your preference if youβre writing server or library code. Iβm hoping theyβll go with MainActor as default isolation in all modules so we can read library code without knowing the moduleβs default isolation.
I have a spreadsheet of all the cds I used to own. Donβt miss the pile of plastic and it satisfied my archivist instinct.
I think the frame the bluesky team is operating under is that itβs important who gets followed, less important who individuals want to follow. Itβs understanding the network as media or publication instead of as communication.

Different moderation tools, feed algos, regulatory contexts, vibes. Similar to reasons youβd choose alternatives for email hosting.
In the wild example @time.com
Presumably the default domain will become less central to atproto as alternative hosts take share and as people that need stronger verification use subdomains on parent orgs (e.g. @biden.whitehouse.gov)
Also, I should be able to give myself unlimited usernames for any domains I care to verify.
The correct UI pattern anyhow for referring to people is autocomplete suggestions, ala Facebook. Only power users remember usernames. Donβt make me think.
Spent a whole day trying to get the mastodon username I wanted and failing. Same name took me 15 minutes to set up on Bluesky.
Feels like DNS is sufficient decentralization for identity and Bluesky might be successfully underdoing Farcaster here.
Wondering after twitter gets unbundled what the synthesis of 20 incompatible clones becomes
