News: Anti-poverty campaigners demand help as price of heating oil rockets - The Poverty Alliance Anti-poverty campaigners are demanding that the UK Government gives cash support to households facing big rises in the price of their household heating oil. The Poverty Alliance says it is worried…

In a just Scotland, everyone could afford to heat their home.
But the cost of heating oil has gone up from about 70p a litre in December, to around 90p a litre today.
That's why we're calling on the UK Gov to help.

We're proud of social security. Like our NHS, it's there for all of us - especially when we need it most. It's a great example of practical support built on trust, compassion, justice, and collective solidarity. Stock photo shows hands of different people coming together to make a heart shape.

Social security is a force for good. A new blog on social security from our Policy & Campaigns Manger Gary Christie shows why.

We often hear from rural organisations that they struggle to attract funding for anti-poverty work. Many of them shared their experiences and what they would like funders to know about working in a rural context.
We're sharing their key messages today

Disabled people and carers in the asylum system are being denied safety, dignity and compassion because they can’t get the health care they need. That's the finding of new #RightsInAction research published today.

It's wrong that prejudice and judgement stops people from using their rights to social security. Yesterday, community activists met Social Justice Secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville to welcome a new Social Security Scotland campaign to confront stigma head on.

Public services are there for all of us. When they work well they can lower people's living costs and give them a stronger platform to build a better life. Investing in warm homes is a great example - and our manifesto has lots of others.

Today’s energy price cap announcement is welcome news, with the typical annual bill dropping by £117 a year.

However, the ‘standard credit premium’, the added cost for paying your bill when it arrives, is still £131 a year. Watch @mariacbooker.bsky.social explain the issue.

There is no doubt that #Dundee is going through a local housing emergency. That's why we joined a coalition of 16 organisations pushing for the council to make a formal declaration. Openly acknowleding a problem is the first step to dealing with it.

People need a secure foundation to build a better future. That's why a #MinimumIncomeGuarantee for Scotland is at the heart of our Manifesto for the #Holyrood26 elections. MSPs can start by strengthening our existing social security.

Transport is a public good that should be available to all. When it works well, it can protect people from being swept into poverty, or pulled in deeper.
Join us to discuss how we can win transport justice for Scotland.
