Cameroon’s Ministry of Health is now working to secure resources for 2027. While significantly less funding is expected to be available, combining onchocerciasis treatment with mass treatment for worms and other diseases could make the effort more affordable, said Dr. Bassirou Bouba. 🇨🇲
After hearing about the shutdown, an anonymous donor provided us one year of funding that had been previously funded by USAID in Cameroon and an additional five West African countries. This funding covers most of the campaign costs, but it is not enough to support ongoing disease surveillance. ❤️🩹
Cameroon's progress toward eliminating NTDs is at risk. But, if they can be restarted this year, it may be possible to preserve the gains that have been made. ✨

Over 58 countries have eliminated at least one #NTD. And the work of the global trachoma community shows just how much progress is being made. In 2002, an estimated 1.5 billion people were at risk of trachoma. Now that number has fallen to 97.1 million—that is a 94% reduction in just 23 years. 🎉

Historic Trachoma update! 👀
For the first time since global tracking of Trachoma began, the number of people that are at risk of trachoma has fallen to 97.1 million. 🎉
In 2002, 1.5 billion people were estimated to be at risk of trachoma. That's a 94% reduction! ✨

In addition, the US gov funding cuts left tens of millions of people without access to critical health and nutrition services virtually overnight. But, we are looking forward to seeing what 2026 has in store for us. 💜
