some of the institutional rot we have from saying “erm actually this technology can’t be allowed to do this” still burdens us today, and it’s not because “technology got better and can now do it” it’s because the entire approach of that legislation simply sucks that much

i feel like the joker for thinking that when lawmakers ban a specific technology from doing a specific task, it introduces several types of institutional and technological rot, and that good legislation focuses on outcomes, safety standards, and liability
