Anti-patterns: things to avoid - Agentic Engineering Patterns
I started a new chapter of my Agentic Engineering Patternw guide about anti-patterns - things NOT to do
So far I only have one: Inflicting unreviewed code on collaborators, aka dumping a thousand line PR without even making sure it works first simonwillison.net/guides/agent...

The Tree House and the Oil Pipeline
In the fight against climate change, sometimes you have to go out on a limb.
In the physical copy, this has the headline "Out On A Limb", but either way, the intro is fantastic

[From Wikipedia] Catbus (Japanese: γγγγΉ, Hepburn: Nekobasu) is a fictional character in the Studio Ghibli film My Neighbor Totoro, directed by Hayao Miyazaki. It is a large, grinning, twelve-legged cat with a large bushy tail and a hollow body that serves as a bus, with windows and seats covered with fur.
Here we see Catbus with a manic expression on their face as they zoom out of the sky and across the landscape leaving behind a Catbus-colored (tan and brown striped) streaking trail of jagged letters reading βMaybe it will happen todayβ.

I can easily imagine people who are not as experienced thinking "this is great you write that for me pull this into that structured format make me that scorecard" I just happen to think that would produce mid crap, but I guess I'm not quite ready to eat trash and be free as a manager

Trying to get the AI to tell me ideas it has for making my job easier and my impression is that it still doesn't have very good ideas about what my job is. Great at writing job specs though.

The details in this story are shocking, and I hope people will spend some time with it, despite the *gestures* EVERYTHING ELSE HAPPENING. Some of these details have been previously reported. Other big ones have not.
