And once you have those answers, you THROW THE THING AWAY. Its purpose has been served. You no longer need it.

You do not, under any circumstances, get sign-off from people who "liked it" and then roll it unchanged into the next level of fidelity.

Too bad there aren't any rich people who could run ads with this information on every social media and regular media channel.

Too bad there's no opposition party that could run a 48 hour Youtube telethon program with 48 elected officials each programming one hour to point out the awfulness of the war on Iran. That would definitely not get any media or other attention.

Well, I guess that will reduce my use of Bluesky on my phone... it wasn't loading posts, so I closed it and re-opened and it wants my birthdate. I don't know why it needs it, but regardless it won't let me give it to it (my browser session on my PC is still working, hence this post)

@plugabletech.bsky.social question for you folks πŸ™‚

I have a work MacBook Pro connected by thunderbolt to one of your docks, which has hdmi->monitor, usb-c to webcam, and usb-c to keyboard/mouse.

Considering buying a personal MacBook... Is there a switch so I could share the dock?

In my experience, the vast majority of waste in a software shop is time spent building things nobody wants on top of overly complex architectures that solve problems we don't have. Focus on that. Put solving your customer's actual (not imagined) problems first.

Second, in order to get the amount of protein that RFK Jr. specifically recommends (1.2 - 1.6 g of protein per kg of body weight), a 150 lb person would need to eat 300 g of liver.

This would provide approximately 210,000 IU of vitamin A and would lead to vitamin A poisoning.

I've written up a brief script for anyone who wants to call or write your representatives regarding this bill (yes, even the ones you think won't care). PLEASE DO THIS IF YOU ARE ABLE. This bill *cannot* pass.

You can find your representatives here: www.congress.gov/members/find...

Ok, I thought the compelling reason why our legal team said we could only respond to user complaints was a 230 thing about not being responsible for the content. And that saying we proactively reacted to bad content made us responsible. I'm not an expert though πŸ˜•

Trump reportedly isn’t sending a hospital ship to Greenland after all Too often, there is no meaningful connection between what the president says he’s going to do and what he actually does.

Remember a few days ago, when Trump announced he was deploying a hospital ship to Greenland? And he added a bunch of exclamation points?

He isn’t actually deploying the ship.

The larger arc: There’s no meaningful connection between what he says he’s going to do and what he actually does.

A graph using reports from people over papers showing Numbers of reported kidnappings and activity from Minnesota, California, Florida, Texas, and then a combination of all other states. The highest Spike is in mid-January showing that Minnesota was reporting 500 incidents a day while California was reporting right around 100. Along this whole graph, Minnesota is showing at least double reports compared to everyone else with the exception of a time in very early January when California was almost on Pace with what we were seeing here. There is a small heading up top that says: immigration enforcement in Minnesota dwarfed the rest of the nation.

Seeing this visualization has been really impactful for me. There were times when people tried to come at us sideways for claiming this is *different* and massive in a way that we hadn't seen other places. But it really really has been.

Worldwide. One positive comment about Microsoft was that we generally implemented consistent policies based on meeting the most restrictive rules. So, post GDPR, any user could export or delete their account. We put 30 day retention on all our logs, etc.

It's great you're giving this thought, don't get me wrong. It is just so complex. When I was at Microsoft and ran some online sites, we had to avoid suggesting we looked for bad content (vs responding to reports) because that might suggest we were responsible. Bad outcome to a good intentioned law.

This is a very well-reasoned discussion between well-intentioned people, but I personally decided the first time I read a @masnick.com discussion of 230 that I was happy someone understands the deep magic aspect of most internet legislation and how even well-intentioned changes can wreak havoc
