“And just what are you trying to say about me, Hank?!”
“Dangit, Peggy, the boy’s lost his name to some kinda Got-dang yokai!”

Well, Morrison had previously written a lot of comics for Vertigo, which was a big thing with that brand. The most common Vertigo trope is some powerful demon is slowly awakening or manifesting, and as its aura increases, everyone in the vicinity starts acting out their most repressed evil impulses.

Yeah. The nerd in "Frankenstein" using the Sheedas' power to convince the popular cheerleader to totally rewrite her personality is an especially memorable example.
3 panel comic of a woman running down a hallway as captions threaten "nothing can save her now" when 2 massive hands burst out of the ground, a huge figure of Frankenstein emerges from the concrete intoning "Was something left undone?"
🟠this was the COOLEST thing ever
International rules of war sound ridiculous, of course. How can war have rules when it’s an exercise in killing each other? But rules of war are co-travellers with hostile nations’ growing recognition of a shared humanity. The post-WW1 world is far from the only historical example of this.
others were set down for magnificent parts in high tragedies, and short and easy parts in genteel comedies, and jolly parts in farces
Well, gas is expensive, and food is expensive, and we’re doing a war nobody wants, but at least there are no jobs

Considering how big cats were in Egyptian culture, and how they actually mummified them, Cleolei is such a ghoulishly perfect fusion. Cat ears are such a cute accompaniment for Cleo's Egyptian-goddess hair.

Happy to present our first online workshop on how other scholars can setup their social media to share their own work. We'd love to see more scholars taking this on and hopefully this can help get the ball rolling for some! #comicsstudies youtu.be/OD70PWiIFWY
Did Night Thrasher use his truncheons more often or his knives? His truncheons seemed much more of a thing in the few comics I read, so I was really surprised that the RPG had only his knives.

I have a feeling there are entire generations of comics fans who have never experienced how breathtaking some older comics are because of the meticulous and vibrant traditional coloring. Many digital recolorings utterly fail to capture that and make the story seem flat or boring.
The Headless Horseman throws a pumpkin at Ichabod Crane. A painting by John Quidor.
In the original short story and the Disney movie, the legend of the Headless Horseman says that he carries his own severed head. That Ichabod Crane gets hit by a pumpkin instead is a big clue that he's being attacked by a disguised Brom Bones instead of by the real Horseman.

I was disappointed that in Night Thrasher's first appearance in the Marvel Superheroes RPG, they just included his body armor, wrist knives, and helicopter. His truncheons and skateboard were shockingly absent. Fortunately, that was corrected in the Gamer's Handbook of the Marvel Universe.
The night is darkening round me,
The wild winds coldly blow;
But a tyrant spell has bound me,
And I cannot, cannot go.

X-Men #110 was the only issue of the Claremont & Byrne run to not get reprinted in Classic X-Men, presumably cuz it's a fill-in drawn by Tony DeZuniga (yet still, loosely ties in w/the later Dark Phoenix Saga). #ThrowbackThursday #XMen

I also love to be reminded that one of the most iconic tools used by Marvel's 90s teen Batman was a bulletproof skateboard.

Honestly, Bret Blevins might be the stealth MVP of this set.

"A better world is possible" used to be an uplifting message about the dream of creating a better future.
Now it is just a straightforward statement. Like…FOR SURE a better world is possible. This stupid shit we are up to now definitely isn't the best we can do. Not even close.

A postcard print of a gouache painting of a stone lantern in front of a house surrounded by a few small trees, rocks, and foliage. Two small black blobs with white eyes are peeking out from inside the lantern.
An art print of an acrylic painting of a tree trunk split down the middle into three pieces, surrounded by small rocks and a smattering of green weeds and other foliage. A small black blob with eyes and tiny hands is peering out over the inside edge of the trunk. Another identical black blob is further back behind the trunk, at the left side, crawling on the ground.
