After nine years, I finally managed to check off watching the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play from my bucket list today.

The end of an era. After 6 years of teaching and research, it was time to say goodbye to the VUB and @wise.vub.ac.be . It is nice to start something new, but I will definitely miss it.
Submitted my first iOS application for review (as an Android user). One second hand iPhone and a lot of cursing later...
Let's see how this goes @sembeacon.org
So you want a fillet in your 3D CAD program? Sure! here is a video on how to do it.

I should probably have guessed that the German trains I had to take for my vacation were gonna get cancelled. Luckily the next one is in 4 hours... Hopefully..
So... I can no longer trust asking the day and weather on my phone
This afternoon, my PhD student @maximvdw.be successfully defended his PhD thesis in public. Congratulations again Dr. Maxim Van de Wynckel!! solid.maximvdw.be/publications...

@maximvdw.be is going to publicly defend his PhD thesis 'Interoperable and Discoverable Indoor Positioning Systems' on June 30 at 15:00 (location: VUB LIC.0.04)... www.vub.be/en/event/phd...

Our @openhps.org framework is now published in the Journal of Open Source Software
Welp, totally did not realise it - but I gave my last exercise session today at the VUB. It was only when a student pointed it out after asking me about my research.
20x per payment method. Could easily be abused beyond 20x per person
Tonight I learned that the @openhps.org logo looks like the flag of Okinawa Island (Japan)
Our latest #OpenHPS update enables developers to stream processed (location) data to #Solid using Linked Data Event Streams ( #LDES ). Simply adding a sink to an OpenHPS model is all it takes to enable this in existing positioning systems.

Always fun every year to give an exercise session that uses @openhps.org
Most, if not all of the issues in the ESP8266 article were backend-related. If you create cheap hardware - you attract cheap software companies that use this hardware.
Camera's and LiDAR each have their pros and cons from a hardware and software (capability) perspective. But I agree that some of his tests could have used a bit more information on the 'why' rather than just saying it worked or did not work. It was a comparison of software vs hw and not hw vs hw

The first student presentations for the course 'Next Generation User Interfaces' were held today. Some interesting ideas were presented! Looking forward to the results at the end of the semester ;)
Always hurts when you see a "questions?" slide for 5min at a conference. Especially when they have to try and condense all knowledge in a 15min presentation.
And a nice timelapse :)
A "before" picture
I am surprised that after 6 months there has not been an accident yet #Brussels #construction
two divers taking measurements using a tape measure in order to try and position objects using multilateration
diver rolling up a tape measure
Last Friday, 'Le Groupe Belge de Recherche Scientifique Sous-Marine' organised a scientific experiment for underwater positioning of objects using trilateration. The measurements went fine, but the data exchange not so much - even humans seem to need some predefined 'specifications' to communicate.
At least Google puts a disclaimer that it works even if you remove the permissions ๐
Did you miss my presentation at #FOSDEM about discovering indoor environments? No worries, the recorded talk is now available:

If you want to find me at #FOSDEM, just follow my WebID in the SemBeacon app
Well, as for troubleshooting of why the demo did not work: accessing the Web requires an internet connection - which I forgot to configure for the demo phone.
Can happen :) #livedemo
Presentation between a SemBeacon and an application, talking about identifiers and namespaces, with the resolved namespace leading to a graph that informs the app about where the SemBeacon actually is indoors.
But first a very interesting talk by @maximvdw that discusses how #semantics and one level of indirection make interoperable indoor mapping possible, called SemBeacon. Using `schema:Map` floor maps, GeoSPARQL for #fosdem #fosdem2025
