Hey look! It's #kidlitartpostcard day!

An illustrated postcard with five spot illustrations of a kid mimicking animal movements. She crawls like an inchworm, sits like a toad, runs like a chipmunk, bows like a crane, and howls like a coyote. It reads in hand-lettered text, "Julian Plum, represented by Naomi Davis at BookEnds Literary, hello@julianplum.com"
Hello #KidLitArtPostcard day!! My name is Julian! I'm a queer ๐ณ๏ธโโง๏ธ picture book illustrator working in gouache and I would love to illustrate more cute picture books about weird little critters!
I'm represented by Naomi Davis @bookendsliterary.bsky.social

White and yellow graphic with the logo for Lee & Low Books at the top. The graphic is titled โContact the Governor Day - March 2ndโ. Beneath the title is an illustration of a child with long blonde hair riding on the back of an open book that appears to be flying through the air. The child has one of their arms outreached, holding up a fist. There are two smaller open books flying on either side of them. At the bottom, body text says, โSwipe through for simple action items to help protect the Freedom to Read!โ

SUCH a good book! It really is wild. I think visually new- and old-growth forests are easy enough to distinguish but there's so much that goes on under the surface, too. Robin Wall Kimmerer goes into it a little bit in Braiding Sweetgrass, too, as well as in Gathering Moss.

so I just want to say that it's worth fighting for amid everything else we need to fight for. We have to stand up for our land and our woods and our forests. we have to be better caretakers and better partners in this relationship we can't help but be part of.

When a forest is clear-cut, we are not only losing trees and habitat: we are losing mosses, ephemerals, herbs and animals and fungi and mycorrhizal networks that have taken forever to form. it is an incalculable loss of diversity and life and connection and it is HARD to rebuild.

I don't want to prophesy doom. We can grow them back, and also there is a staggering amount of biodiversity dependent on growth networks and relationships in an old-growth forest that take time and effort to replicate and we are still working to understand them all.

there are a hundred thousand things to fight. I want to speak for a moment about old-growth forests. without our voices to translate they are voiceless, and if they are clear-cut we will not get them back, full stop. they are gone. we can grow something new in their place, yes. but they are gone.

just became aware of this--the regime wants to clear-cut massive chunks of Oregon's old growth forests in the name of timber production.
you have until March 23rd to comment.
i know we have endless fucking things to scream at politicians about--this is an important one too.

If you have the means, please donate to the Trans Continental Pipeline right now. They are a Colorado based org that helps trans people relocate and they are overwhelmed with requests. Colorado borders Kansas, and TCP has the infrastructure to help get people out.

That is SUCH a good point! Maybe I'll let them decide what makes more sense? It seems like it would be good to do it on a weekend early in the day so, you know, actual children can be there for the launch of the book for children, and then an illustration demo would absolutely make sense! thank you!

friends, colleagues, help a guy out: if I want to do a launch party for my debut picture book, is it better to do that on publication day? the following weekend? During the day? In the evening? Does this change if I am only the illustrator and not the author?? am I overthinking this?? HELP

100%! they are absolutely not thinking trans men. when they do we get harassed too. this line of logic hurts gnc cis women too and positions them even more as "other". That and it just hurts to see whole piles of cis folks piling onto these jokes like "haha yeah we'd hate those gross guys!"
