Not really interested in debating point by point why I'm skeptical that residential parking permits would be good for New York City (at least the densest parts of it) so here's an oldie from @dmey.bsky.social of @nyc.streetsblog.org with quotes from parking expert Rachael Weinberger of RPA.
The NYPD sowed chaos and confusion in New York City β first by blocking several buses, and later by blaming toddler for their own death. buff.ly/LFwhECD

Free parking in NYC is a give away to the rich
Looking to raise billions of dollars? Try parking reform:
"'We should be looking at all those things,' Fuleihan had said, referring to the questioner's specific mention of dynamic parking fees or other ways to get revenue from one of the city's untapped public resources."
Yes, NYC should charge more for currently metered spaces and increase the amount of metered spaces while also thinking twice about charging for parking overall. As @saraklind.bsky.social notes, It could lock in using curbside space for car storage and create even more driver entitlement.
Should all parking within the congestion pricing zone be metered 7a-midnight?
Absolutely. I'll die on this hill (island?).

At some point, the city (and state) need to confront this.
Otherwise, you're granting Sean Duffy design veto over a lot of city streets

The governor should make insurers in the state offer so-called pay-as-you-drive insurance, which would tag premiums to how many miles motorists actually travel, rather than the lump-sum status quo, which charges the same no matter how much you use your car.
You could stop doing the harmful, dumb, pointless thing in the meantime

Hey @nyc.streetsblog.org BRAKING NEWS: At a City Law breakfast, DM Dean Fuleihan was just asked about charging for on-street parking and he said and I quote, βItβs not a noβ! Set aside the wood for Kuntzman!
New York City's oddly long struggle to give people a safe place lock their bikes up outdoors will bear fruit this year thanks to millions of dollars in Mayor Mamdani's budget for a network of secure bike lockers.
I'm so proud of my reporters @kevinduggan.bsky.social and Austin C. Jefferson for their continued coverage of Gov. Hochul's attempt to lower the cost of driving by lowering compensation to victims of crashes. The latest:
empire.streetsblog.org/state-senate...
Rather than chipping away at crash victimsβ rights in order to lower car insurance costs, Gov. Hochul should push pay-as-you-drive auto insurance, which would reduce costs while also cutting driving, crashes and pollution. nyc.streetsblog.org/2026/03/05/s...
It's taken almost ten years to get the whole thing any real investment, but Zohran Mamdani is proposing to spend $25 million on secure bike parking, finally letting the city join backwaters like London and Paris in offering the common sense amenity nyc.streetsblog.org/2026/03/05/l...
