"Just go indie" fails to understand much of the problems with animation under capitalism right now, that the ratio of time crunch, working wages, financial results, regulation of the funding and safety nets for more experimental projects is not in a good place right now.

Deviantart died spiritually. The site exists, but it's a husk of its former self, and if you trace back the decisions that lead to this, it's trendchasing

what do you mean they've gone all in on AI? anybody else would call you tonedeaf if you tried this. that's how insane it is

I'm pretty sure there's a gallery centric service being made out there. this is not a new idea, but it's important I stress how important it is for something like this to be able to find itself and thrive in what i think is the future of *social* websites

I strongly respect Newgrounds for withstanding the test of time abt this, but anything new IMO MUST be built on open protocols such as atproto which makes it easier on everybody related for it to exist & carry on, no need to be painfully independent, build community and leverage an existing network

these sites DIE. hosting user content can get EXPENSIVE. not everyone knows how to (or often CAN'T) make or get space for their own WEBSITE. it becomes HARD. friction matters!

when one of these sites DIE the users go where everyone else is to get seen much easier and AS A SIDE, archive their art.

the death of these i find is directly attributable to the fact that if one of these sites does not break even (e.g. donations and them drying up), infrastructure $$$ will force cannibalization through trendchasing and this is why we need them to be made on open protocols like atproto (powers bsky)

The heightening contradictions are intolerable to stomach. The capabilities will never reach the delusional hype, but we have just reached the place where it could be a genuinely great tool for responsible engineers… at the same time it’s being used to bomb schools. Every advance, a new atrocity.

I cannot stress how much appreciation she deserves. From what I've read and heard, she was just an amazing person that others should strive to be.

I see a lot in her in my friends. Its obvious that she's a massive inspiration for a generation of young trans creatives & programmers.

there's no objective silver bullet nor toy gun for this kind of problem, there's so many variables even minute to minute that makes this almost essentially pseudorandom

like. sure! things can bleed over! but that one sentence is the kind of sentence that should have you pause for a moment, scrunch up your eyebrows and look to the side in disgust because just one second of processing makes it a very senseless statement

this is strange because it's a mixed bag of stuff. game design is so broad and people can be so confident on things they have NO knowledge about just because it's all under the same umbrella, it's crazy
