A small girl wearing a rabbit costume and blue coat carries a book as she walks to school. Her mother (head out of shot) wheels her baby brother along in a pushchair. The baby says "Peter Rabbit may be the 'Hero' of the story, but surely the obedient, widowed Mrs Rabbit is a more effective symbol of the oppression inherent within Mister McGregor's regime" The girls looks furious and snaps "Mum!! He's critiquing my world book day costume from a marxist perspective again!"
A cartoon reminder that tomorrow is World Book Day (In the UK anyway). Originally for the @theguardian.com
Well things got a bit heavy this afternoon. A friend who lives over in Vienna has been diagnosed with kidney cancer, and it's metastasised in her lungs.
Sooooo.... That's a bit shit.

Coaching my nephew through getting gifts for his mum. Bloody hell it's painful. I can almost hear the teenage grunts as we go through each stage of the process.
Past me was an idiot. I picked a tomato based pasta for lunch, but put a white long sleeved tshirt on.
Fool.

Thank you to @zackpolanski.bsky.social for your clear support for the trans community. In a political climate where too many are stepping back, visible allyship from political leaders matters.
We were proud to meet Zack at launch of the Trans Lives Report by @transactualuk.bsky.social
Oh spicy brain why....
Why did we just put 'water' as a reminder to do something in the calendar. I can't remember wtf that means...
Spent most of today in recovery after a VIP night at the BRIT Awards. She's tired.
The thing about the U.S. and Israel is that both of their leaders are trying to stay out of prison.
This has me crying in real life πππ

They must surrender them, after which their ID will mark them as a Jew.
In 2026, the state of Kansas invalidated all correct trans drivers licenses.

The left lapel of a lime green blazer is pictured, a string of pearls runs the length, and a large pin shaped like a peeled and upside down banana is attached to the lapel. Words at the bottom say 'The Brits outfit is taking shape. I do have a backup, but I like this idea....'
My Brit Awards outfit is taking shape.

I did the biggst double take as I went past on the bus. Had I not been hanging on with both hands I'd have snapped a picture. Going to have to try and stop in for full verification of my eyes.

Yesterday's yoga session included far too many inversions. If I wanted to be suffocated by my boobs, I could do that at home.

The political effects of X's feed algorithm https://doi.org/10.1038/s41586-026-10098-2 Received: 16 December 2024 Accepted: 4 January 2026 Published online: 18 February 2026 Open access β’ Check for updates Germain Gauthier,5, Roland Hodler?5, Philine Widmer35 & Ekaterina Zhuravskaya3,4,5 m Feed algorithms are widely suspected to influence political attitudes. However, previous evidence from switching off the algorithm on Meta platforms found no political effects'. Here we present results from a 2023 field experiment on Elon Musk's platform X shedding light on this puzzle. We assigned active US-based users randomly to either an algorithmic or a chronological feed for 7 weeks, measuring political attitudes and online behaviour. Switching from a chronological to an algorithmic feed increased engagement and shifted political opinion towards more conservative positions, particularly regarding policy priorities, perceptions of criminal investigations into Donald Trump and views on the war in Ukraine. In contrast, switching from the algorithmic to the chronological feed had no comparable effects. Neither switching the algorithm on nor switching it off significantly affected affective polarization or self-reported partisanship. To investigate the mechanism, we analysed users' feed content and behaviour. We found that the algorithm promotes conservative content and demotes posts by traditional media. Exposure to algorithmic content leads users to follow conservative political activist accounts, which they continue to follow even after switching off the algorithm, helping explain the asymmetry in effects. These results suggest that initial exposure to X's algorithm has persistent effects on users' current political attitudes and account-following behaviour, even in the absence of a detectable effect on partisanship.
A new paper shows that less than 2 months of exposure to Twitterβs algorithmic feed significantly shifts peopleβs political views to the right.
Moving from chronological feed to the algorithmic feed also increases engagement.
This is one of the most concerning papers Iβve read in awhile.
Weβve all had enough of politicians lying to us, right?
Reckon on that we can all agree
Which is why Iβm absolutely buzzing for this legislation that would criminalise lying in politics
