20-something years later, people still discovering my Fanboy & Goth Girl novels, and I can only hope they look at the copyright dates and realize these were written LONG before the Gaiman stuff became public.
Every now and then, someone will comment on the Great Ecuadorian Tortoise Blight of 1928 from my first novel, and I take an absurd amount of glee in telling them that it's basically word-for-word something I pulled on my history teacher in tenth grade.
As in the book, she totally bought it.

And just to be safe, when drilling metal I usually tape the spot where I'm drilling to keep the bit from skipping all over the place. Maybe start by using an awl to put a little dimple in the metal for some grip.
