Today I’m open-sourcing Dejavu!

Testing UI performance in Jetpack Compose is frustrating. We profile and watch tools, yet regressions still creep in.

I built Dejavu to make recomposition behavior something you can actually test.

The Reviewer Isn't the Bottleneck AI tools are flooding PR queues and the instinct everywhere is to call review the bottleneck. I think that’s the wrong question. The reviewer is the last sync point before production changes. The goal...

Good writeup.

This is indeed a real and urgent problem.

When they saw me in my space suit and the parachute dragging alongside as I walked, they started to back away in fear. I told them, don't be afraid, I am a Soviet like you, who has descended from space and I must find a telephone to call Moscow!

Star Trek The Next Generation scene. Riker and Geordi, in uniforms red and gold, meet at a Enterprise corridor intersection. Riker is *very* tall. You don't always see it, but here facing and compared to Geordi, sheesh he's a tall drink of water. Anyways, his hair's a bit messy. Closed caption reads, "I'm having trouble waking up."

I'm retired. There is no reason for me to start getting up earlier when the clocks change. But I'm so conditioned to react to "the time" that it happens anyway. Consider this my official protest.

moved my email provider from Gmail to Fastmail and I gotta say, it feels like taking a nice warm shower. FEELS GOOD. (I'd been meaning to for a while, but Google ending POP3 importing gave me the push to say bye for real.)

Email is still ryan@qwantz.com, you won't notice anything different!

Marin could get a Transbay-style transit hub in this city’s downtown A new complex would bring a San Francisco Transbay vision to this downtown in Marin County, where the current transit hub is really a grid of canopied bus shelters bisected by train tracks.

Golden Gate Bridge officials are planning to move the San Rafael Transit Center up a block. But they're really moving continents. How marrying bus and train connections could transform mobility in the North Bay: www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/arti...

But it's already getting lighter at night without us screwing with the clocks and breaking people. Why isn't that enough?

Vibe coding broke people's brains because they had a bad understanding of the software design process.

The pop culture model goes something like this: start out with a sketch and then render that same idea in progressively finer detail.

So when tools could "skip" to high detail, people went WOW.

A whole fish sits next to salt and rice filled barrels, I think. It's got stylized kanji in vertical lines along the side. There are trays of cuts of fish, or vegetables next to the barrels.

I'm craving sushi: let's talk about who *invented it*.

Our story starts in the Mekong River valley: Laos, Cambodia, Thailand.

Locals realize they can preserve river fish in barrels with layers of salt & rice for YEARS, a precaution against drought, famine.

Both Sinclair and Richardson were incredible authors, pioneers of modernist literature. It's a shame how obscure they've become.

The term "stream of consciousness" was first used in a literary context by May Sinclair in her review of Dorothy Richardson's _Pilgrimage_. Here it is, on page 57.

We forgot to take the wreath off of our front door, and last week we discovered that a bird had made a nest on it. We have since been avoiding the use of our front door so we don't risk scaring it off or damaging the nest.

Today we discovered that one of the eggs has hatched.

I love molas. I've seen them several times on dives around Monterey CA and they're fascinating oddballs. They survive well beyond our expectations for them which says less about them and more about our understanding of survivability.
