Absolutely and many people are showing real bravery in their resistance, and I didn't mean to suggest otherwise. My point was specifically about certain academics who prefer to look away, diagnosing authoritarianism abroad while sleepwalking through it at home.

I refuse to attend any ASA conference while Trump is in office. When a UK tourist shackled and detained by ICE for six weeks, no academic freedom is safe.
I hope our US colleagues take note that #sociologists cannot diagnose authoritarianism abroad while sleepwalking through it at home.
