Hi Mark! Based on my editorial experience, it is weak evidence of GenAI use, but strong evidence of careless manuscript preparation. It might be worth flagging in your editorial correspondence as a submission quality issue regardless of the GenAI question.

This is what happens when governments set up studies and reviews with a predetermined conclusion to deny support to marginalised groups. It's so important to defend trans and non-binary rights. That's why the work of groups like @goodlawproject.org, @transactualuk.bsky.social, et al is so important.

Thrilled to announce I've signed my contract with Temple University Press for Queer Under Siege: How Societies Threaten Queer Life.
As a gay academic, this book is deeply personal. A celebration of queer resistance, and the beauty of queer life in the face of siege and repression. ๐ณ๏ธโ๐๐

Disorientation Is the Point: How Permanent Unpredictability Broke Democratic Politics
Chronic uncertainty does not mobilise democratic publics โ it paralyses them, and that paralysis is itself a tool of power.
I wrote for Social Europe:
Fear of a known enemy mobilises democracies.
Fear of nothing in particular destroys them.
The most dangerous force in global politics today is the inability to know what comes next and who benefits from that confusion.

Khomeini's monument was toppled by Iranians. Iranians were in the streets long before the bombs. #Sociology teaches us that external intervention risks delegitimising popular resistance and structurally redefines it, turning an organic revolution into an appendix of someone else's war.

The Iranian regime is oppressive and must fall but solidarity with Iranians also means refusing to let their pain be weaponised by other powers pursuing their own agendas.
If you only remember a people's suffering when it serves your geopolitics, you were never on their side.

My book, #Queer Under Siege, has been unanimously voted for contract by Temple University Press.
It was hard to write, bearing witness to the collective pain of our queer communities as we navigate repression across the world. It is a book about siege, but ultimately about resistance

Gorton and Denton byelection: Polanski says Greens best party to defeat Reform after Hannah Spencer wins โ UK politics live
Reform UK finished second and Labour is pushed into third place in bad news for PM Keir Starmer
Finally waking up to a glimpse of hope in this country. Gorton and Denton is a good slap for the racist, reactionary party and for a governing party that lost its way long ago.
The Greens showing that people want something different; not fear, not complacency.

Will Democracy Govern Capitalism โ or Be Consumed by It?
Taxing extreme wealth and multinationals is essential to defeating "21st-century Caesarism" and reclaiming democratic governance from the global elite.

I've spent years studying how authoritarian regimes criminalise inconvenient knowledge. This is that playbook. If the state bans teaching about certain issues as sociological facts, it tells you exactly what it fears. This is why critical, comparative, historical sociology matters now more than ever

โOur classrooms are empty because the graveyards are fullโ: Iranโs students on why they are protesting again
As details of the death toll for Januaryโs protests continue to emerge, three students explain why they are resisting a return to normality
โOur classrooms are empty because the graveyards are full,โ said Hossein*, 21, a student at the University of Tehran. โItโs for them โ our friends, classmates and compatriots, who were gunned down in front of our eyes, that we decided to boycott the classes.โ

Reform would create ICE-style agency and end leave to remain, Zia Yusuf to say
Nigel Farageโs party plans to deport up to 288,000 people a year on five flights a day and expand stop and search
Fascist Italy, Nazi Germany, Putin's Russia, Trump's America and many others...the regimes that built deportation machines in the name of "security" saw more violence.
Reform UK offers a blueprint written in blood. None of this leads anywhere good for Britain.

Absolutely and many people are showing real bravery in their resistance, and I didn't mean to suggest otherwise. My point was specifically about certain academics who prefer to look away, diagnosing authoritarianism abroad while sleepwalking through it at home.

I refuse to attend any ASA conference while Trump is in office. When a UK tourist shackled and detained by ICE for six weeks, no academic freedom is safe.
I hope our US colleagues take note that #sociologists cannot diagnose authoritarianism abroad while sleepwalking through it at home.
