Baby JJ is laughing at her dad Tim while being held in his arms
One of my favourite parts of being a new dad is leaning into the dad jokes.
Thatβs why Iβm so happy to be hosting a Community Solar Panel next week on Nov 25th π€£ get it - panel??

When @mikesamba.bsky.social published his climate research report, he didn't expect it to go viral in the right-wing media!

It was such a pleasure to interview my cousin @mikesamba.bsky.social for the podcast. He's one of the brightest minds in Canadian climate finance (ok, ok, maybe I'm biased here).

Every time Baby J smiles at me, I remember why Iβm doing this.
Iβll admit, I wondered if fatherhood might pull me away from my work in sustainable finance. That money could become less meaningful to me. Instead, itβs strengthened my resolve. I want to help build a system that centers on empathy, kindness, and a long-term perspective.
When I'm feeding her a bottle, my thoughts drift to parents in Gaza, Sudan, Yemen, and even in my own city who struggle to fill their babies' stomachs. That thought weighs on me like a ton of bricks. Food is a basic human right, and too many are denied it.
The last few months have been beautiful, terrifying, exhausting, challenging, rewarding, and cute AF.
The summer was hard in Toronto. Heat waves. Smoke from wildfires. Being a new parent comes with its own kind of cabin fever, but climate change adds another layer.
Heal up quickly!!!
Next up is electrified transport! This was barely a scratch in the total number back in 2009, but it grew 20%+ last year! EVs and e-bikes are the majority of the $760 billion 2024 figure, with $2.77 trillion since 2015.
First up is Water! Water infrastructure has been the steadiest green sector. Its market size was $346 billion in 2024 and $2.8 trillion since 2015.
Here's baby Tim talking about the report in 2010 with Amanda Lang & Kevin O'Leary www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSM1...
I'm preparing for an update to the Green Transition Scoreboard research report. I started aggregating investments in the global green economy back in 2009 with my mentor, Hazel Henderson. The first report found over $1 trillion flowing into green sectors!!
Green bonds have remained incredibly resilient amidst the recent backlash against ESG. On tomorrowβs show, Iβm interviewing Simon SenΓ©cal from AlphaFixe Capital, the sub-adviser for the National Bank Sustainable Canadian Bond ETF (NSCB), which has almost $3 billion in assets under management!
Historically, it's hovered at about 50%. But since 2009, the US stock market has outpaced everything.
Yep! Global companies like Apple that are listed on a US exchange count 100% to US equity
Ooooh, great Q. The 1/3 mix you describe has a biiiiig home bias, and is underweight US which grew since 2008.
2 models to look at:
The All-Country World Index (ACWI) has US 68%, Canada 3%, and int'l 29%.
XEQT has a home bias and is US 42%, Canada 25%, int'l 33%.
Anywhere in between is great π
Wondering WTF is going on with these markets? Check out the market update I did at the start of last night's webinar. TLDR: take a deep breath and zoom out - stay calm & rebalance!

I had fun on CBC Vancouver talking about ethical investing. 4-minute video in reply
Thanks Mark!!

14/ If you want to ensure your investments reflect your values and serve future generations, letβs talk.
With my daughterβs arrival around the corner, I'll slow down this summer. So if youβre ready to take control of your financial future, nowβs the time
shorturl.at/ZTDBF
13/ I want my daughter to grow up courageous. To face the world as it is while working toward what it can be.
And thatβs why I want to help more people feel empowered about their money. Because money is a toolβit can reinforce problems, and it can be a lever for change.
12/ Itβs also got me reflecting on my own early money lessons. The things I absorbed from my parents, sometimes without even realizing it.
Now, I think about what I want to pass on to my daughterβand just as importantly, what I donβt want to pass on.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mp8N...
11/ And the last thing I want to do is sacrifice her future for my personal financial gain.
Parents, Iβd love to hear from youβhow did having a child change your long-term outlook? Your financial goals? Did it make you more courageous?
10/ Too often, investing is framed as a selfish actβmaximize MY profits, grow MY wealth, secure MY future. But having a child is the ultimate selfless act. It shifts the focus, forcing me to think long-term, to imagine the economy and environment that my daughter will inherit.
9/ And that extends to how we invest our money. Whatβs the point of leaving our kids wealth if we donβt leave them with a world worth inheriting?
8/ Those of us with kidsβor grandkidsβare fighting for something far bigger than ourselves. Weβre all striving for financial security, yes, but at the core, we want to leave behind a world where they can thrive.
