We've investigated ourselves and found nothing!!!!
Anyone who thought the US would "turn around" after the mid terms was dreaming. The #USA is no longer a democracy. There will not be free and fair elections in the US for a very long time, if ever.

Photo of Marjane Satrapi holding a cigarette. βThe world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you. And our governments are very much the same.β - Marjane Satrapi, Iranian Graphic Novelist

My late father was a little obsessed with Iranian politics (despite not being Iranian). He taught me from a young age about democratically elected Mosaddegh, who was toppled by the USA to install the oppressive Shah, which led directly to the Islamic Republic. Mosaddegh was nationalizing the oil.
Speaking of shock and awe...
I have seen a lot of cursed stuff in my time in academia but this is among the *most* cursed.
Grammarly is generating miniature LLMs based on academic work so that users can have their writing βreviewedβ by experts like David Abulafia, who died less than two months ago.
I don't typically share emoji posts with the SciArt Feed, but this classic post by @astrokatie.com is a phenomenal example of visual communication. π‘

Got a new pencil case. I didn't like using a roll as it was too too slow to get a pen quickly.
People really struggling with the idea that the Iranian government sucks but we shouldn't be bombing them can both be true, eh?
I've been using @kagi.com for about 6 months now. I never thought I would be happy to pay for search, but here we are. Google, Bing and even Duck Duck Go have become unusable. Now I have a search where I am the customer, not the product being served to advertisers. No AI push either.

American sympathy shifted away from Israel and in favor of the Palestinians, with the lines crossing for the first time ever.
Noteworthy that support for Israel declined in both 2023 (Oct. 7) and 2024 (Gaza) but the biggest drop came this year (Trump effect?) and it started in 2020-21, not 2023-24.
I'm generally a peaceful guy, but if humanity figures out a way to kill all the biting mosquitos in the world, I will support it.

The Supreme Court has finally announced that Donald Trumpβs stupid, illegal tariffs were, in fact, stupid and illegal. Now every company in America is lining up to get a big fat tariff refund from the federal government. But who actually paid those tariffs? YOU did, because Americaβs big retailers marked everything up. So shouldnβt YOU get the refund? Not a bunch of corporate dipshits and douchebags? Cards Against Humanity thinks so. Thatβs why we are giving 100% of our tariff refund back to all of you, our customers. Sign up now at GetYourFuckingMoneyBack.com.

And the infinite money loop continues. Amazon, Microsoft and nVidia passing billions around to each other to keep it going. Apparently this can just keep going and no government is stepping in to say, this may be a bad idea. OpenAI will be valued at 1 Trillion soon.
People who use AI for creativity donβt get it and they never will. These people just donβt have βitβ in the first place and AI will never give βitβ to them.
Naturally creative people who use AI will end up relying on AI and will lose βitβ. Keep βitβ sharp, reject the artificial creativity machine.
Former ICE agent: My first day training new cadets, I received secretive orders to teach them to violate the Constitution by entering homes without a warrant. I watched ICE cut classes that teach our legal system, firearms training, use of force, lawful arrests, and the limits of officers' authority
Wireless and internet costs in Canada are brutal compared to other countries, except for Saskatchewan. They have the publicly owned SaskTel. The big national telecoms have to compete so Bell, Telus and Rogers have prices 40% lower in Saskatchewan. All provinces should have the same.

There are a disturbing amount of articles recently that quote tech CEO's "won't someone think of the AI companies?!?". It's a solution looking for a problem. And the few uses for it are not worth the cost.

Half of business owners on this Toronto street estimated that more than 25% of their customers arrived by car.
In fact, it was 4%.
And the % of customers who who walked or cycled? 72%.
