What about 400%?
Thinking about starting a Patreon and setting up Stripe for more formal payments. Maybe buymeacoffee for one-time casual payments?
it doesn't matter if you're not first - you're new
Oops might have been me
Thanks! Yeah, I figured why not release step by step? It's sort of in line with the build in public mentality. As long as each step is something you feel good about shipping, go for it!
I started building mine recently and I shared some inspiration somewhere in there. There's not much there yet but I'm having fun! nickwhite.dev
What's everyone using for accepting donations/tips/subscriptions?
It seems like there are a few options. Mostly big tech and under the hood almost everything uses Stripe.
Still using VSCode.
Do I download one of these hot new editors (read VSCode forks with AI features grafted on) or finally learn vim?
I haven't been using python much lately but I remember venv being the way and being happy with it being added to python 3 so I didn't have to manage it with a dependency.
I feel that. Be nice to yourself and give yourself space. You'll find the grove again even if it doesn't come back immediately.
I'm finding mine a few minutes at a time these days. The focus blocks are getting longer and I'm getting happier, so that's a good sign.
I added my website's first article this weekend.

Post? Page? Entry? Thought? Rambling? Rumbling? I don't know what I'm calling these things yet.
This one is about why I made some of the decisions I made when building my personal dev website.
lmk what you think!
Thanks Dominik!
I actually picked up a couple of tricks from your Hetzner VPS guide this week!
Thanks for sharing dominikhofer.me/setup-secure...
Been trying out Spark for the last few months and it's so much better than having to change accounts every time I want to check another email's inbox on Gmail. It was out of control and now I have no problem staying at inbox zero.
Will do!
My goal for now is to feel the pain of managing a server directly. For some reason, I learn best when I learn the hard way.
Oops I didn't link the small web essays I mentioned above...

I wanted to learn more about hosting directly with as few dependencies as possible so I skipped @coolify.io this time but the people and intentions behind it are too good to ignore.
Awesome!
@coolify.io is one thing I forgot to mention in my list of recent interests so thanks for reminding me. I have been enjoying the coolify community but haven't played around with it much yet.
I'm going to have to do some experimenting!
Shout-out to Joeri Sebrechts and his website plainvanillaweb.com for inspiration!
(Going to have to cross-post on mastodon to tag him)
I'm a long-time lurker on the internet and I want to get better at participating.
I plan on adding to my website, building more, contributing to OSS, sharing learnings and questions I have, and having fun!
I ask you to help by mentioning me, tagging me, asking me to review your code, whatever!
Navigating hosting has been an interesting adventure.
I've landed on a tiny Hetzner VPS for my personal sites. Dreaming of self-hosting in the future.
For client projects, I'm currently using Netlify and it seems good.
Open to ideas and thoughts on hosting providers.

The framework that has caught my eye is @svelte.dev. I haven't played around with it too much but it seems solid, has an appealing developer experience, and the community seems great!

In terms of the social web, IndieWeb, atproto, and ActivityPub all seem great and I've been trying to learn more about them.

I've been getting into ideas like the small web and digital gardening.
I thought Ben Hoyt's and Parimal Satyal's essays on the small web were thoughtful and inspiring.

I left Meta this summer and since then have been recovering from burnout and dipping my toes in independent software engineering.
I'll make a few posts about what I've been getting into.

New website's up - nickwhite.dev
Seems like the rest of the app works. I have privacy badger and ublock origin installed. Seems like a cool app!
@anisota.net the tutorial isn't working for me on Firefox for Android. It crashes after moving to the second page.
