After more than two decades of monitoring, mitigation and seasonal closures, the District has exhausted all safe, practical, and fiscally and environmentally responsible options to keep this portion of the trail open.

Hastings Creek Trail’s central section is now permanently closed.
We understand this trail has been loved and well‑used for generations, and we share the community’s sadness about its closure. However, safety is our top priority, and the effects of erosion can no longer be mitigated.
Flags at District Hall and other municipal buildings will remain at half-mast until sunset on February 17
The horrific incident in Tumbler Ridge saddens us deeply and puts us at a loss for words. Our heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims are all we can offer. Our thoughts are with the community and all those impacted by this senseless act of violence.
