if people want shorter games with worse graphics made with less work many exist but not enough people buy them for developers to be paid more (or even recoup costs)
similar to "there should be more variety in games" there's so much! gotta look for it! won't have CoD marketing budget
Don't underestimate how much this helps with mental health. It can give people the handhold they need to climb and peek out of a hole just enough to be able to deal with other issues, and start a chain of positive effects that will eventually make even the art you like better

Itβs actually terribly inefficient to have every employee spending 20% of their energy eying future employment prospects bc they donβt know if their job is more than 9 months of stable paychecks.
If youβre worried about the future of games, remember that your $ holds enormous sway. Support companies who actually care about the art and craft of making games, who put people first and value their employees & audiences. Support indies especially. The future doesnβt belong to greedy corporations

To paraphrase a friend: stay on the path, make good things. Indie has always flourished in the face of AAA distraction. Times are bad, but let others deskill, pivot to nonsense or chase impossible outcomes. People really like playing videogames. Suits forget that every 6 months or so.
