Yes, but we live right on the border. The mountain with the spires is, in fact, part of the border. The spires facing us is Chile. The other side is Chubut Province, Argentina 🤗

Here is a pic from our new Azul River Trail at our farm in Futaleufú. Click on the photo. For years we had had 3 isolated trails to the river, but we hadn’t been able to connect them into an integrated loop as the steep topography got in the way. But now the trail is done and it is so beautiful. 😀

Today is the birthday of my late sister Robyn who passed away at 22 in 1981. It has been a special day. All our animals have been sweet & playful & filled with gratitude. Eldfara, our Icelandic fire horse, let me sit by her side while she was napping. A rare treat. Don’t forget to love my friends.
Good afternoon and greetings on a rainy day in Chilean Patagonia! Sharing some personal news to help those with hearts burdened by the fog of war.

Just a reminder to bluesky friends: Autumn is an awesome time to go to Patagonia! The color moves from south to north starting in Ushuaia (mid March) to El Chaltén & Torres del Paine (late March/ early April) to Cerro Castillo (early & mid April) to Futaleufú & Northern Patagonia (mid & late April)
Acacia trees in autumn along the Chubut River, Argentinian Patagonia.
Unlike Chilean Patagonia—mostly green & lush—90% of Argentinian Patagonia is a semi-arid cold desert known as the Patagonian steppe. There is petrified forest, lots of paleontology, & some of the oldest cave art in the world.
Either way they don’t appear to spread as quickly as the Scottish broom which is really taking over many places
You may be confusing these with the “retamos” (Scottish broom) which is a non-native highly invasive species that dominates much of the landscape in Patagonia?

This was our cabin in mid April at Mallin Colorado in Puerto Gaudal. They have trails on site but it is super central & equidistant for day trips to Rio Puerto Tranquilo (Marble Caves), La Confluencia of the Baker & Nef, and Patagonia NP
The area south of Coyhaique: Cerro Castillo, Catedrales de Marmol, Baker River, Patagonia National Park, is AWESOME in April. I recommend a hotel called Mallin Colorado in Puerto Gaudal. Try to have a meal at the Hotel Explorer in Patagonia NP. So much to see and do.

Happy 120th birthday to Esquel, Argentina ❤️. Beautiful Esquel is the nearest city to our farm in Futaleufú, Chile. Esquel is renowned for La Hoya Ski Area, being the gateway to Los Alerces National Park, and as the home station for La Trochita, “The Old Patagonian Express.”

Fjord-shaped Yelcho Lake, located in Chilean Patagonia, is the final resting place of the mighty Futaleufú River. A famous fly fishing destination, this beautiful lake outflows to the Pacific via Rio Yelcho at the Gulf of Corcovado. You can paddle the FU & kayak the lake to the Pacific in 6-7 days.
A must

All Hail The Fire Horse!
It is Eldfara’s world now and we are blessed to be a part of it.
