I donโt even have anything in me to be snarky about the compromises on our rights that have emboldened these legislatures. Theyโre trying to make mandatory reporters for social transition. I donโt even have words.

Note: McBride is actually an ordained Presbyterian elder in the same denomination as Talarico.
Talarico is in seminary. But unless he is also an elder like McBride (more common than you'd think), she's currently in a higher office than him in local church polity. religionnews.com/2024/11/25/b...
The vote count in NC SD-26 showing Page at 13,077 and Berger at 13,075
Wow. With all precincts reportingโbut some provisional and absentee ballots left to countโNorth Carolina Senate President Phil Berger is losing the GOP primary in NC SD-26 by TWO VOTES.
Iโve seen enough. Not about the election. Just generally.
RACE CALL:
All three North Carolina Democrats (Shelly Willingham, Nasif Majeed, & Carla Cunningham) who voted to overturn Governor Josh Stein's vetoes have LOST their respective Democratic primaries
This law is a dangerous attempt to deny transgender people autonomy over our own identities and lives.
We'll see the state of Kansas in court.
Conde Nast just sold them.us to the parent company of Out, The Advocate, etc. so there goes like 95% of the trans staffers at the company (after they got rid of 2 of us in November <33)
There are certainly more than 300 trans people in Kansas, so is this only the ones who have changed their gender markers on their licenses, or who have only done so in a specific way?
it's 2016: north carolina introduces a bill to ban trans people from using bathrooms safely. there's a national outcry; companies withdraw business up to and including the NCAA cancelling a publicized game. the bill fails.
it's 2026: kansas passes a law nullifying trans people's licenses. crickets.
Just some normal, kitchen table issues here for sure
Gawain the green knight opening a letter sealed with wax
Little Alex Horne in his studio chair with the caption "so a simple task: land a fair blow anywhere on the green knight. One year later meet him at the green chapel, receive the same blow yourself."
A cut to a wider shot showing Greg Davies in his throne turning to Little Alex Horne subtitled "Well surely no one just ran up and whanged his head clean off."
Cut back to Little Alex Horne subtitled "Let's see Gawain first."
Looks like the original has been swept away by the sands of time.

Methodology This brief describes the results of a national survey of 1,055 LGBTQ adults (ages 18+) in the United States, including 111 transgender and nonbinary adults. This online survey was conducted by NORC's AmeriSpeak panel and ran May 29 - June 13, 2025. Funded and operated by NORC at the University of Chicago, AmeriSpeakยฎ is a probability-based panel designed to be representative of the US household population. Randomly selected US households are sampled with a known, non-zero probability of selection from the NORC National Sample Frame, and then contacted by US mail, email, telephone, and field interviewers (face to face). AmeriSpeak panelists participate in NORC studies or studies conducted by NORC on behalf of governmental agencies, academic researchers, and media and commercial organizations.
โข 43% of transgender people have considered moving to a different state, compared to 25% of all LGBTQ people. โข And, 9% of transgender people report they've actually moved to a different state since November 2024, as have 5% of all LGBTQ people.
NEARLY 1 IN 10 TRANSGENDER PEOPLE REPORT MOVING TO A NEW STATE As shown in Figure 1, nearly one in 10 (9%) transgender adults in the survey have moved to a different state due to LGBTQ-related laws or politics, as have 5% of LGBTQ adults. Again, given that the survey only covered a relatively short time frame of November 2024 to June 2025, this is a remarkable impact.
Not to fully dispute these numbers, but Iโm wondering about the sample size here. Even from 1,055 LGBTQ adults, 111 trans/nonbinary adults feels small to extrapolate to โnearly 1 out of every 10 trans adults has moved states.โ I donโt think the survey text itself extrapolates as much as the image.

He says โcompeting for evangelicalsโ but heโs really only talking about white conservatives, which is not primarily who Talarico is targeting. Beshear is a beloved governor of a deep red state yet has always talked about his faith guiding policy. Thereโs more than the religious right here!

"That compassion is weak and cruelty is strong has become an article of MAGA faith. Trump and his allies believe that the more inhumane the treatment, the more likely it is to spread fear. Thatโs the goal of surging heavily armed federal forces into blue states such as Minnesota and Maineโstreet theater of the most dangerous kind. Other recent presidents, including Joe Biden, Barack Obama, George W. it is so so so so funny to write this in a piece that references the Good Samaritan in the lede. or, it would be funny, if not for the lives ruined by this, a distillation of the "and who is my neighbor?" approach to politics.

One of the things that really fucking annoys me about AI is that people *do not understand it* (on purpose, bc these companies want it that way) and they assume itโs as reliable as the computers theyโve been using their whole life when itโs actually about as reliable as your least capable intern
