it starts to blur together... i started to learn a lesson that i continue to struggle with to this day: it still hurts, but not for that reason anymore...

All I know is that if Kamala had won, the extraction of resources to directly feed the billionaire class would have gone on in a far more orderly manner
reaper still works on a core duo, motu firewire drivers are fine, snow leopard is more stable and usable than linux. safari is unusable and app store doesn't work but there are other options. more importantly the polycarbonate shell and lcd are still in great shape and the battery holds a charge.

"totally untethered categories that don't make any sense unless you blindly accept that everybody feels like they are destined to become a semi-famous person"
is the music truly experimental, or is the artist simply adrift of the cultural threads that already thoroughly explored the territory? who's job is it to clue them in? maybe role of the dj, the scene elder, the label to some extent nudge the awareness to appreciate rather than naively appropriate
People who run dance music labels: I am literally begging you to figure out how to do metadata correctly. Do not make me change each track from "Various Artists" one by one, please
tagging music is a lost art for ppl who don't download or collect mp3s
it's super tricky esp as we get further away from the historical and geographical context of the roots of any given scene and the sound around it. does the producer know what song they want to mix into theirs, what song comes next? does the producer even dance or dj? these are loaded questions ofc.
the ppl who make the music, and the ppl who are digging for music, they both have their heart in the right place. but it is rarely the same place LOL
no, you get it, you work at a record store. confusingly, Bandcamp is not a record store so there is no coherence in how genre tags are applied (self-administered)
many ppl are not good at describing their music much less putting it in the right bin. that's part of the appeal & value of record stores
IF YOU'RE UNEMPLOYED IT'S NOT BECAUSE THERE ISNT ANY WORK JUST LOOK AROUND: A HOUSING SHORTAGE, CRIME, POLLUTION; WE NEED BETTER SCHOOLS AND PARKS. WHATEVER OUR NEEDS, THEY ALL REQUIRE WORK. AND AS LONG AS WE HAVE UNSATISFIED NEEDS, THERE'S WORK TO BE DONE. SO ASK YOURSELE, WHAT KIND OF WORLD HAS WORK BUT NO JOBS. IT'S A WORLD WHERE WORK IS NOT RELATED TO SATISFYING OUR NEEDS, WORLD WHERE WORK IS ONLY RELATED TO SATISFYING THE PROFIT NEEDS OF BUSINESS. THIS COUNTRY WAS NOT BUILT BY THE HUGE CORPORATIONS OR GOVERNMENT BUREAUCRACIES. IT WAS BUILT BY PEOPLE WHO WORK. AND, IT IS WORKING PEOPLE WHO SHOULD CONTROL THE WORK TO BE DONE. YET, AS LONG AS EMPLOYMENT IS TIED TO SOMEBODY ELSE'S PROFITS, THE WORK WONT GET DONE.
the Black Panthers were right
Much of my youth revolved around the website ZineLibrary. It went down around Occupy in a massive loss for a movement whose ideas and knowledge mostly doesn't circulate online but in person.
Anyway I've put it back online with a *thousand* anarchist zines:

Buy an mp3 player, pay for digital copies of music when you can afford it and pirate it when you canβt until youβre back in a position in which you can. Listen to the collection of music that you own and cultivated by hand and ear. Listen to it again. Share your collection with others.

going out of your way to not sound like another artist will limit your creativity. when you feel inspired by something, run with it. that's your true authentic heart thirsting to manifest itself as art. true inspiration is a divine impulse, not a copy of someone else's work

Tumblr post by stimmyabby Sometimes people use "respect" to mean "treating someone like a person" and sometimes they use "respect" to mean "treating someone like an authority" and sometimes people who are used to being treated like an authority say "if you won't respect me I won't respect you" and they mean "if you won't treat me like an authority I won't treat you like a person" and they think they're being fair but they aren't, and it's not okay. 642,270 notes
