Graphic reading βApplications Open! Sovereign Tech Fellowshipβ above a photo of five smiling people standing arm in arm, wearing matching black βSovereign Tech Fellowshipβ hoodies. The text overlay states that the fellowship is open to FOSS maintainers, community managers, and tech writers, with applications due April 6th, 2026 at 11:59 PM (CET), and mentions freelance and employment options as well as flexible working hours.
πΒ Applications for the Sovereign Tech Fellowship are officially open!
Whatβs new? For the first time, community managers, and technical writers can apply alongside open source maintainers until April 6, 2026, to become Fellows.
Our industry discourages bright minds from pursuing objectives that have an upper limit to profitability, too, so we have this race to the bottom mentality inverted on itself as a race to adoption and lock-in of the highest ACV customers as possible. Microsoftβs GitHub will continue to drift from us
This was ultimately what made me leave Slack to build Teamlanes. The Salesforce acquisition really pushed the platform up market toward larger enterprise accounts, making decisions reminiscent of Herokuβs simultaneous ascent toward acquisition and drift away from the long tail of devs it grew from.
I was pleasantly surprised with the ergonomics and utility of it all when I used it for a similar intranet project!
So state reps in New Mexico sent a letter to the feds asking for unredacted information as part of their new Truth Commission (all dems and repubs voting in favor) investigating the Epstein ranch in New Mexico.
The next week, Trump starts a war in Iran.

And this could just be the gravity of capital reasserting itself in any system complex enough to require significant infrastructure. This might just be the way it is and all we can really hope to do is be resilient.
Personally and philosophically I agree with you. Who cares what VCs are doing; a protocol is a way to communicate, and we can build communities without them. I am more speaking to the nature in which AT Protocol's decentralization promise is so attractive specifically to VCs. Interesting, isn't it?
I like the *idea* of AT Proto; I do not like what the *reality* of AT Proto is shaping up to be.
As VCs capture more and more of the ecosystem of this VC-backed protocol, less and less non-VC funded projects will be able to compete for market share, let alone mindshare. Itβs a big complicated cryptographically guaranteed club, and you ainβt in it.
And the promise of AT Protocol is NOT data sovereigntyβthe promise is that intrinsic infrastructural complexity leads to the inevitability of VC money to enable market capture.
βBut the users own their data!β
βThey can just leave to another service!β
The only way to extract and migrate, assuming youβre hosting your own PDS, is for there to be another VC-backed alternative. No indie-funded project is going to capture market share like a VC-funded one.
Oof. I just read your post in the most uncharitable, pedantic way possible, and I gotta tell ya: it's not looking good for you.

Republicansβnot any other partyβare solely responsible for Trump not being held accountable for his and his administrations anti-American activities during his first term. Republicans enabled him and consciously AVOIDED holding him accountable. They still do. They have the votes. They choose not to.
The internet is on fire w people blaming Biden for not holding Trump accountable while President.
While conveniently ignoring the branch of government literally charged w holding the Executive branch accountable.
Have we forgotten the Republicans who voted to acquit?
Where did all those Donβt Tread On Me losers go (donβt say theyβre working at ICE thatβs too lazy of a joke).
Literally 100% of the things the Trump campaign has accused hypothetical Clinton and Harris administrations of doing, they have done themselves.
There is just no way they didnβt rig the last election. And thereβs no way they donβt rig the next one. Every single accusation has been a confession.
the fact the president of the united states is even thinking about asserting emergency powers to disrupt an election - just a few years after he incited an armed coup attempt - should be the top issue. but the media mostly shrugs and the opposition doesnt focus on it.
This is interesting way to spam
Anyway, apparently I'm a top 1% Rust engineer globally AMA
The entire Democratic strategy debate β "moderate" or move left? fight or compromise? β is based on a misreading of data. Voters don't think Dems are too progressive; they think Dems are weak. The actual math on what to do about this isn't even close!

i dont know if its always been like this but among the elites theres just no sense of responsibility to be good stewards of the society thats given them everything
There's a pattern where open protocols get captured by the most resourced players, and the openness becomes less a guarantor of freedom and more a subsidy for the powerful.
I propose "Human attention is the scarcest resource in your company" as a potential framework for navigating this new world
If the majority of BlueSky users are politically left,
And the majority of politically left pundits are on BlueSky,
And all BlueSky data is public via the firehose,
Is BlueSky an ipso facto opposition surveillance tool of an authoritarian state?
